Unveiling the Details of the Upcoming Yominoichi Event
The Yominoichi event, set to take place at Yoyogi Park from February 21 to 23, 2026, promises to be a grand market celebrating the joys of reading and writing. Hosted by a consortium led by Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (CCC) and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd., this event aims to promote literacy and community engagement through various unique activities.
Among the standout attractions of the event, the special
Dagtachi-ya ROCK will be making an appearance in the Kids Area. Inspired by the nostalgic candy stores of childhood, this mobile shop will provide an exciting atmosphere reminiscent of festivals, capturing a fading culture in a modern setting. Visitors can enjoy tasty treats and relive fond memories from February 21 to 23, daily from 11 AM to 5 PM.
In addition to the candy store, the Yominoichi event will encourage families to donate their cherished picture books. These books will be collected and donated to educational institutions in the Shinjuku area, allowing participants to create a legacy of reading for future generations. The collection will also run from February 21 to 23, ensuring that attendees can actively contribute to promoting literacy.
A unique feature of Yominoichi will be the
Omamori Picture Book List, which will be distributed exclusively at the event. This list, created by experts in children's literature, will suggest books that resonate with ten different life stages, from infancy to adulthood, guiding visitors on their literary journeys.
For those seeking a moment of introspection, a special collaboration with
Jiyu-cho, a popular shop in Kuramae, will offer attendees the chance to write letters to their future selves. From February 21 to 23, this quiet yet profound experience encourages participants to reflect on their goals and aspirations, with the added incentive of receiving exclusive event postcards.
The
Sotobori Bookstore will also set up a pop-up shop at the event, presenting innovative ways to experience books. Focusing on the theme of a “future where books continue to be cherished,” this experimental bookstore by DNP will feature unique activities such as ‘Re-Bunko’ reissues, book gacha machines, and aromatic reading experiences.
Adding to the excitement,
BS Tokio's program will showcase exclusive merchandise from its show “Did You Read That Book?” This collection, supervised by actress Honami Suzuki, will allow book lovers to explore engaging items that encapsulate the show’s ambiance.
The event will also host a range of engaging discussions featuring prominent bookstore personalities. Noteworthy sessions include a dialogue between
Takuhiro Tarumoto, owner of the used bookshop
Hyakunen, and
Yu Yamashita, manager of the
Aoyama Book Center in Omotesando. They will discuss the philosophies guiding their selections and operations, providing insights into the evolving landscape of bookstores.
Another significant conversation will include
Nanako Hanada from
Crab Books and
Moe Mori from
Chapters, focusing on the nuances involved in recommending books to strangers and the profound connections formed through literature.
The event does not stop there; it will also host creative engagements such as a unique dialogue facilitated by Fictional/Air Bookstores, a beginner-friendly reading club experience, public radio sessions hosted by picture book experts, and performances by voice actors.
In collaboration with the Publishing Industry Promotion Foundation (JPIC) and major publishers like Kodansha, Shogakukan, and Shueisha, the Yominoichi event aims to support the present and future of reading and writing culture.
CCC describes this initiative as “Dokusho-yoku,” akin to a meditative bath in the world of books, encouraging the community to immerse themselves in the literary environment for improved mental health and personal growth.
The three-day festival is expected to be an all-encompassing literary celebration, providing attendees with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the invaluable practice of reading, writing, and sharing stories.
