Desert Financial Foundation Grants Scholarships
The Desert Financial Foundation has made a significant impact in the community by awarding
$212,000 in scholarships to
66 students in Arizona this year. This initiative aims to support high school seniors who show a dedication to both education and community involvement, as well as adult learners seeking to advance their academic pursuits.
Celebratory Event
On
May 6, a celebratory event was organized at
Chateau Luxe in
Phoenix, recognizing the achievements of the scholarship recipients. The foundation has been actively engaged in supporting education since its inception, demonstrating a commitment to fostering academic growth within the state. Over the years, they have disbursed nearly
$2 million in scholarships, underscoring their dedication to educational support.
Jeff Meshey, the board chair of Desert Financial Foundation and the President and CEO of Desert Financial Credit Union, stated, "Education has the power to change lives, families, and entire communities. Through our scholarship program, we're proud to support adults who are investing in their future as well as high schoolers who are giving back to the communities that helped shape them."
Scholarship Breakdown
This year’s awards include:
- - 30 Community Service Scholarships: Offered to high school students who complete at least 50 hours of community service while maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. Each recipient will receive $3,000, with select outstanding students awarded an additional $2,000.
- - 30 Adult Learners Scholarships: Designed for individuals 25 and older who are currently enrolled in an accredited Arizona school. The same financial support of $3,000 is provided to these recipients, with a few remarkable candidates receiving $5,000.
- - 6 Passion to Help Scholarships: These are awarded based on strong volunteerism, with winners receiving $3,000 and an exceptional student acquiring a $5,000 scholarship.
Three standout high school recipients who secured the
$5,000 scholarships include:
1.
Elizabeth Hart from Arizona Agribusiness and Equine Center, who dedicated over
600 hours to community service and aims to become a doctor.
2.
Jay Jimenez Solis from Highland High School.
3.
Cameron Forrest from Paradise Valley High School.
Similarly, among the adult learners,
Alireza Rahimi from Tempe has ambitious plans to complete a
PhD in Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering, focusing on sustainable solutions for environmental pollution. Other recipients include
Denyse Tumugire and
Julia Jena, both from Phoenix.
