Exciting Return: Yuji Takahashi's Solo Piano Concert
In a much-anticipated event, renowned composer and pianist
Yuji Takahashi will be showcasing his talents in a solo piano concert titled
'Piano' on
November 15, after a gap of five years. The concert is produced by
Keiichiro Shibuya, who leads the music label
ATAK and has previously collaborated extensively with Takahashi.
The concert will be held at the
Hillside Plaza in Daikanyama, marking the beginning of a new concert series in collaboration with the venue. The tickets for this special event will be available starting
September 25 via
Peatix.
A Unique Musical Experience
This concert is particularly special as it will feature four compositions titled
'Piano', all written by Takahashi since 2000. What makes this performance unique is that the pieces are created from fragments that Takahashi will assemble on the spot, meaning that no two performances will ever be the same.
This innovative approach invites the audience to experience music as a living entity, constantly evolving and changing. They will witness Takahashi's masterful improvisation and artistry, which will be felt in the atmosphere of this intimate concert setting. Takahashi’s previous works and collaborations with Shibuya, including the acclaimed cassette tape
'Sui Ken Ittaku', have made waves in the contemporary music scene since their release in the late 90s.
Keiichiro Shibuya: A Visionary Producer
Keiichiro Shibuya has expressed his excitement about producing this concert, highlighting that Takahashi’s music has inspired him since his youth. He recalls how attending one of Takahashi’s concerts as a high school student motivated him to pursue a career in composition. Shibuya shares, "I never thought I would have the opportunity to produce a concert of Yuji-san when I started my own career. The four pieces selected for this event aren't things I've heard before, but they resonate deeply with my recent work in Abstract Music. Therefore, I wanted to hear them live, and I asked him to perform them." He further elaborates that the piano will be centrally placed in the venue, allowing the audience to closely engage with Takahashi’s performance.
