Fujitecom Partners with Laos to Enhance Water Leak Prevention Technology

Fujitecom Sign MOU for Leak Prevention in Laos

On September 25, 2025, Fujitecom Co., Ltd., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Vientiane Water Supply Authority and the Laos Water Supply Association in Vientiane, Laos. The purpose of this MOU is to strengthen technologies to reduce non-revenue water, which has become a significant issue in Laos due to rapid economic growth and inadequate infrastructure investments.

The signing ceremony saw the participation of key figures, including Fujitecom's CEO, Shinichi Moriyama, acting president of Vientiane Water Supply Authority, and acting chairman of the Laos Water Supply Association. During this event, Fujitecom made a commitment to provide its latest leak reduction technologies, with great expectations voiced by numerous attendees, including representatives from the Department of Water Supply under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Background of Water Supply Issues in Laos

Laos is experiencing economic growth but remains one of the countries with the lowest nominal GDP in the ASEAN region. The country is still at a developing stage, and investments in water infrastructure have lagged, leading to a national average non-revenue water rate of 32% as of 2022. In Vientiane, increased population and water demand have resulted in shortages during dry seasons, highlighting the urgent need for effective water resource management.

Fujitecom has been operating in Laos since 2011, having introduced leak detection equipment while conducting training programs to combat non-revenue water for various water supply agencies, including the Vientiane Water Supply Authority and provinces like Luang Prabang and Khammouane. This effort has been recognized and led to heightened calls for expanding these initiatives across the nation, culminating in this recent MOU.

MOU Details

  • - Objective: To reinforce technologies to reduce non-revenue water nationwide.
  • - Cooperation Activities: Providing leak prevention technologies and expertise, conducting training/workshops, and promoting nationwide actions against water leakage in collaboration with Laos water authorities.
  • - Duration: Five years from the signing date.

Comments from the CEO

Fujitecom CEO Shinichi Moriyama shared his reflections on his visit to Laos 14 years ago, expressing pride in returning to witness the development of Vientiane. He emphasized that water is a crucial foundation that supports the lives and society of its people, stating, "With our 65 years of experience in leak prevention technology, I am proud that we can contribute to solving challenges in Laos. This MOU marks the beginning of a new partnership focused not only on technology transfer but also on learning and growing together."
