Health Union Launches Entries for the 2026 Social Health Awards
Health Union, known for its pioneering role in online health communities, has officially opened entries for the 2026 Social Health Awards. This prestigious awards program, now in its fifth year, celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the health landscape, particularly within digital spaces. The awards aim to honor patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals (HCPs) who have shown outstanding commitment to building community and disseminating knowledge in the health sector.
Expanding Recognition
Julie Croner, the Vice President of Community Development at Health Union, emphasized the transformative impact that Health Leaders have on people's lives, often going unnoticed. "Health Leaders do the work that changes lives—frequently behind the scenes, unrecognized, and usually amidst challenges they already face," she explained. This year's awards introduce a new category specifically for HCPs who actively advocate for patients online, reinforcing Health Union's dedication to supporting health leadership.
The awards will also include a U.S. Responsible Influence Certification in the prize package, which is crucial for maintaining ethical standards in health advocacy. "As champions of health leadership, it is our duty to equip these leaders with the right tools for credible and confident work," said Croner.

A Noteworthy New Category
The addition of the Patient-Centered Pioneer category is particularly exciting as it recognizes healthcare professionals who are reshaping medical practices in the digital age. This category was introduced based on insights from Health Union's Patient Leadership Council, ensuring it aligns with community values related to clinical excellence.
Winners will receive a personalized Social Health Award, a cash prize of $500, a one-year seat on the Patient Leadership Council, a membership to the Society for Participatory Medicine, and the Responsible Influence Certification. This platform not only provides recognition but also expands opportunities for advocacy and partnership.
Selection Process
Entries will be evaluated for eligibility by the Social Health Network team, and five finalists will be chosen per category through a scoring process led by Health Union community managers. The final selection of winners will be made by a panel of judges, including members from the Patient Leadership Council, Social Health Network peers, and other healthcare industry representatives. The finalists will be announced on July 21, 2026, and the winners will be honored at a virtual ceremony scheduled for August 19, 2026, at 12 PM ET.
