Peak Trust Company Reinforces Commitment to Alaskan Youth with Internship Support

Peak Trust Company Deepens Commitment to UAS Internship Program

In a significant effort to support future leaders in public service, Peak Trust Company has made a notable donation to the University of Alaska Southeast's (UAS) Senator Ted Stevens Legislative Internship Program. This contribution marks the third installment of their ongoing five-year commitment of $52,500, with this year's donation totaling $10,500. This premier internship program is designed to immerse students in legislative politics and public policy, preparing them for careers in public service.

Matthew Blattmachr, President and CEO of Peak Trust Company, emphasized the importance of the program, stating, "Since its inception, the Ted Stevens Legislative Internship has provided pivotal opportunities to students across the state. By partnering over the years, we are thrilled to see the growing impact of this program, as many of Alaska’s political leaders today once served as UAS legislative interns."

Now in its impressive 37th year, the Ted Stevens Legislative Internship continues to serve as a fundamental aspect of political education in Alaska. This unique program allows students to earn college credits while they work full-time in the Alaska State Legislature's offices in Juneau, enabling them to gain firsthand experience in governance.

Peak Trust Company is the only corporate sponsor of this prestigious internship program besides the Ted Stevens Foundation, providing crucial financial support that facilitates students' relocations to Juneau for the duration of their internships. This support significantly reduces the financial burden on students, covering essential costs such as housing, transportation, and living expenses, thereby allowing them to fully devote their attention to learning and contributing to the legislative process.

Professor Glenn D. Wright, Ph.D., the Statewide Program Coordinator at UAS, praised Peak Trust's contribution: "Peak Trust's generous support breaks down financial barriers and expands the internship program each year to those who otherwise might not be able to afford the move. By offsetting costs, this funding allows students to focus on developing their skills and making meaningful contributions to the legislative process."

The upcoming 2025 internship cohort is comprised of ambitious and academically driven students hailing from diverse backgrounds across Alaska. Brittany Eames, the UAS Development Officer, expressed her enthusiasm about the group’s capabilities, stating, "This is an excellent group of academically and professionally driven individuals. In their short tenure, these students have quickly become integral team members, actively working on legislation and policy-making."

In addition to its support for UAS, Peak Trust has also recently shown its commitment to education through donations to the University of Delaware's Professional and Continuing Studies, where they will welcome the inaugural class of Peak Trust Management Certificate students this spring.

As Peak Trust Company continues to forge ahead, the partnership with UAS not only reflects their dedication to nurturing future talent but also strengthens the connection between educational institutions and the realms of politics and governance. Peak Trust Company looks forward to welcoming the 2025 Senator Ted Stevens Legislative Interns alongside Alaskan legislators at an upcoming gathering in Juneau.
