A New Chapter in Sneaker Collaboration
In an exciting announcement, Vans, the iconic action sports footwear and apparel brand, has revealed its first collaboration with mita sneakers, a leader in Japanese sneaker culture. This partnership marks a momentous occasion as it brings together two prominent names in the sneaker world. The new model, called the "Premium Old Skool GORE-TEX®", is set to release on October 6, 2025, available through a lottery at mita sneakers and Herringbone Footwear, with general sales starting on October 11, 2025.
Located in Ueno, Tokyo, mita sneakers has been at the forefront of sneaker culture in Japan since the 1990s, under the direction of Eiki Kunitomo. Known for its innovative collaborations and exclusive releases, mita sneakers has helped shape the sneaker landscape in Japan and beyond.
The Premium Old Skool GORE-TEX® is more than just a shoe; it's a testament to the resilience and spirit of the skate culture, themed around the Japanese proverb “七顚八起” which translates to "Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight". This model employs a refined design, focusing on form, fit, and comfort, utilizing Vans’ Premium series.
One of the standout features of this collaboration is its upper, crafted with premium suede in muted blue and grey tones. The dual color panels symbolize the sky and asphalt that surround the skate culture, creating a dynamic visual that is both modern and edgy. An embossed finish adds depth to the overall aesthetic, giving it a striking appearance.
The foxing tape features a checkerboard pattern inspired by the thrill of skateboarding tricks, likening the uncertainty of each move to a game of chance with dice. Additionally, the design includes glowing side stripes, insoles and outsoles adorned with striking dragon and tiger graphics, and a map code indicating the location of mita sneakers. Each detail embodies the essence of this collaboration, celebrating the brand's history while pushing creative boundaries.
Functionally, this sneaker is equipped with GORE-TEX® technology, ensuring both waterproof and breathable qualities, making it ideal for various weather conditions. The insole incorporates a high-resilience polyurethane foam called "SOLA FOAM ADC", which is made up of 30% bio-based materials, providing exceptional comfort for all-day wear.
