Linyi City Capitalizes on High-Level Opening to Boost Quality Growth

Linyi City, located in China, is making significant strides in enhancing its economic landscape by utilizing opportunities presented by high-profile openings. The recently commenced fifth RCEP (Shandong) Import Expo welcomes a multitude of domestic and international buyers, showcasing Linyi's potential as a global trade hub. With participants from 48 countries, this event underscores Linyi’s efforts to invigorate its trade connections and position itself firmly in the global market.

As the host of Linyi Trade City—one of the earliest wholesale market centers in China—the city is on a robust growth trajectory fueled by its open economy. Recent statistics reveal that Linyi Trade City achieved a remarkable total revenue of 708.53 billion yuan last year, with a logistical value of 1.08 trillion yuan and a total value of imports and exports reaching 124.52 billion yuan. This impressive performance highlights the city's dynamic economic environment and its appeal to global traders.

By the year 2035, Linyi aims to elevate its Trade City into an internationally recognized distribution center for goods, harnessing its logistical advantages. This ambitious goal aligns with the provincial government's commitment to high-quality development as outlined in a governmental bulletin from Shandong province.

In October of 2025, the Shandong provincial government implemented a set of 22 strategic measures designed to enhance Linyi Trade City’s development. These initiatives are focused on optimizing local opening mechanisms through a “dual center” construction model. The reforms cover essential sectors such as customs clearance, logistics, finance, legal services, and risk management, significantly promoting an open economic landscape.

One of the standout achievements in Linyi's economic expansion is the staggering 109.3% year-on-year increase in foreign trade with Africa, reaching 21.26 billion yuan in 2025. The city has strategically intensified its outreach to emerging markets including Africa, ASEAN, and the Middle East, transforming these regions into pivotal drivers for its trade growth. According to the municipal trade office, this diversification aims to bolster local businesses and sustain economic momentum.

To further support high-quality foreign trade growth, Linyi has launched various integrated service facilities. In February, the International Trade Center was inaugurated, providing local exporters with comprehensive services including customs, taxation, currency exchange, financial assistance, and logistical support. Additionally, the Linyi Digital Trade Center aims to eliminate digitalization barriers for local enterprises, enhancing trade efficiency and responsiveness to market demands.

The city regularly organizes international exhibitions and local events geared towards foreign traders. These initiatives are designed to promote bilateral trade while seeking new transportation routes that connect Linyi with Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and other significant markets. The synergy of these efforts solidifies Linyi's dedication to advancing commercially driven developments boosted by international relationships.

Linyi's strategic positioning, fueled by an unwavering commitment to high-quality growth and effective international collaboration, sets a precedent for other cities aiming to thrive in the global trade landscape. The ongoing investment in infrastructure and service improvements is a testimony to Linyi’s ambition to not just be a participant, but a leader in the global economy.
