Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube Partners with Chaberton Energy for Solar Initiative in Chicago
Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube and Chaberton Energy Join Forces to Install Solar Power in Chicago
In a noteworthy development for sustainability in manufacturing, Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube (MLP&T) has announced its partnership with Chaberton Energy to install a solar power generation facility at their expansive 44-acre campus in Chicago. This initiative not only marks MLP&T's foray into renewable energy but also represents a significant step in their commitment to sustainability and cost management.
The multi-phase project will adopt a hybrid model addressing the energy requirements at the facility while simultaneously providing renewable energy options to the local community through a subscription-based community solar program. Upon completion, this project will proudly stand as one of the largest solar installations within the City of Chicago, covering more than one million square feet, or approximately 24 acres of MLP&T’s property.
The environmental benefits of this initiative are substantial. The installation is projected to significantly lower carbon emissions, expected to reduce more than 282,000 metric tons over its lifetime. To put that into perspective, this reduction is equivalent to the carbon sequestering effect of planting around 4.7 million trees, a remarkable achievement in combating climate change.
Shunsaku Honda, the President of MLP&T, emphasized the significance of this solar installation, stating, "This solar installation represents a critical milestone in our sustainability goals. The solar array will not only minimize our carbon footprint but will also help control electric costs while showcasing our dedication to supporting local community energy needs."
This solar installation marks a significant milestone as it is MLP&T's first venture into solar energy in the United States. The company is a proud member of Maruichi Steel Tube Group, a global manufacturing organization based in Japan. The assistance from Chaberton Energy has been instrumental in facilitating this project. Chaberton specializes in helping companies manage energy costs and reduce their carbon footprint, a particularly vital service for energy-intensive sectors like manufacturing.
Matthew Stavis, Vice President of Development at Chaberton Energy, expressed pride in this collaboration, stating, "Chaberton Energy is honored to partner with Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube in advancing their renewable energy initiatives. This project showcases how industrial solar installations can simultaneously boost a company’s operational efficiency, aid local communities, and promote environmental sustainability."
