The Legacy of Nakamuraya: Social Contribution through Food
Nakamuraya Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has embarked on a charitable initiative by donating a portion of the sales from selected confectionery products. Under the leadership of CEO Hiroyuki Shimada and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (Standard: 2204), Nakamuraya seeks to honor its founders' commitment to social contribution through food.
The company's roots in social charity date back to the catastrophic Kanto earthquake that struck on September 1, 1923. The founders, Aizō Sōma and his wife Kurohikari, witnessed the desperate need for food among the disaster victims. They felt it was their duty as merchants not to stand idly by but to work tirelessly to produce and provide steamed buns and bread to those in need. Reflecting on this experience, Aizō Sōma expressed joy in being able to do even a small part in helping others during a time of crisis.
Continuing this legacy, Nakamuraya has been actively involved in various support activities in disaster situations. As part of their recent initiative, during the anniversary month of the Kanto earthquake, the company will donate a portion of the sales from specific products as disaster relief funds.
