Seikatsu Club Group Unveils First Electric Delivery Truck to Promote Sustainability

Seikatsu Club Group Launches First Electric Delivery Truck

On February 23, 2026, the Seikatsu Club Group held a ceremony in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, to exhibit its inaugural electric vehicle (EV) delivery truck. The event took place at the Katsushika Center, as part of the organization's commitment to achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, as outlined in their "Seikatsu Club 2030 Action Declaration."

This initiative marks a significant shift in the organization’s logistics, as it transitions its delivery vehicles to electric alternatives. The newly introduced EV truck is a conversion of an existing delivery vehicle, emphasizing the value of utilizing resources that are still serviceable, and thereby minimizing the environmental impact associated with the production of new vehicles and waste generation. By promoting the conversion of existing trucks to EVs, Seikatsu Club is taking an active role in environmental sustainability.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from Yamato Mobility & Mfg, SBS Zentsu, and various stakeholders from Seikatsu Club Tokyo and the North Tokyo Cooperative. During the event, a memorial key commemorating the delivery of the electric truck was presented to Seikatsu Club by Yamato Mobility & Mfg, signaling the truck's official launch into service.

Seikatsu Club's Commitment to Sustainable Practices

Seikatsu Club has established concrete goals for decarbonization, following the principles of its 2030 Action Declaration. The organization is steadily implementing measures to reduce emissions across its cooperative activities:

  • - Electric Vehicle Fleet: The group currently operates a total of 15 light-duty EVs for local operations across Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, and Osaka.

  • - Use of Natural Refrigerants: The organization aims to fully convert all of its centers in Tokyo to carbon-free cooling systems by 2040.

  • - Renewable Energy Integration: Seven facilities in Tokyo, along with public facilities in Setagaya Ward, are equipped with solar power generation systems, promoting clean energy utilization.

Statement from Yamato Mobility & Mfg

Mr. Osamu Ohnuma, Executive Officer at Yamato Mobility & Mfg, spoke at the ceremony, stating: "This vehicle was incorporated into our delivery fleet back in September 2013 and has since covered over 96,000 kilometers. We are proud to deliver this EV truck to Seikatsu Club, showcasing both the environmental benefits of electric driving and the economic advantages of cost reductions. We aim to expand our offerings with more electric models in the future."

Comments from Leadership

Reflecting on the transition, SBS Zentsu President Nobuyuki Ikeda expressed enthusiasm for the EV truck's debut, stating, "This truck has contributed to home deliveries for 13 years, and it's a joy to see it transformed into an electric vehicle. We are hopeful for further contributions with more EV trucks to come."

Similarly, Seikatsu Club Tokyo's Vice Chairman, Yasushi Morimoto, remarked on the significance of finally introducing the EV truck, emphasizing its potential to boost morale among members and align with the organization’s vision for a sustainable future. "We wish to create an easily livable society that considers both food and the environment, and this EV truck is a reassuring step in that direction."

North Tokyo Seikatsu Club Chairman, Kaori Kimura, also shared sentiments about the truck’s journey to electric status, proudly noting the community's advocacy for clean energy vehicles over the years. "The transformation to a conversion truck exemplifies our commitment to sustainability, and we hope to increase the fleet for our members to connect more deeply with these vehicles."
