In a significant stride towards modernizing telecommunications infrastructure, Huawei has launched its Next-Generation WAN (NG WAN) White Paper during the Upperside World Congress 2026, an event themed "Next-Generation WAN, Boosting New Growth for Carriers." This initiative aims to transform IP networks by 2030, ensuring that operators can develop large-scale, secure networks that enhance user experience while driving revenue growth and operational efficiency.

The event featured an IP Gala summit attended by representatives from notable organizations like the WBBA and the IPv6 Forum, as well as leading telecommunications operators from around the globe. The discussions revolved around enhancing multi-dimensional awareness, ensuring network security and resilience, and enabling network autonomy. Collectively, these efforts aim to pave the way for the evolution of IP networks towards Net5.5G.

Harnessing AI for Network Modernization



One of the pivotal themes of the summit was how operators are harnessing artificial intelligence (AI), powered by IPv6 and SRv6 technologies, to fully unlock their networks' potential. Latif Ladid, president of the IPv6 Forum, emphasized that various countries are implementing AI-driven cloud strategies, focusing on resilience and security. This transition creates a robust foundation for operators to evolve their network infrastructures.

In his keynote address, John Cai, President of Router Domain within Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, outlined that the NG WAN initiative should rest on three foundational pillars: multi-dimensional awareness, security and resilience, and network autonomy. These components work together to help operators enhance their revenue streams while minimizing costs and boosting operational effectiveness.

The newly released NG WAN White Paper serves as a comprehensive guide for building targeted IP networks in the era of Agent Internet, detailing critical features, architectures, scenarios of value, advanced technologies, and construction specifications. It provides strategic direction for global operators looking to innovate and evolve their networking capabilities.

Setting New Standards Through Best Practices



During the discussions, Mehmet Durmus, Deputy Director of IP/MPLS Core and Data Center Networks at Turkcell, shared his company’s journey in deploying NG WAN technologies. He noted that innovations such as 5G and intelligent processing are placing increased stress on traditional networks. In response, Turkcell has adopted cutting-edge solutions like lossless RDMA and AI-driven dynamic energy-saving protocols, which have yielded remarkable progress in intelligent processing and operational management. These initiatives are setting new benchmarks for next-generation IP networks.

Xu Huan, Vice President of Router Domain at Huawei, elaborated on the fundamentals and key scenarios of NG WAN, highlighting its AI-centric approach combined with full convergence of services and integration of networking, computing, and security. This infrastructure leverages eco-friendly, ultra-high-speed technologies like 400GE/800GE, ensuring a multi-dimensional awareness that delivers high-quality experiences for users and VIP services while improving Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and Days of Usage (DOU).

Moreover, the network employs agents to enhance its autonomy, ensuring a seamless and secure service continuity that meets evolving customer expectations.

As the discussions concluded, it became evident that Huawei is committed to tightening collaboration with global operators and industry leaders, discovering new potentials within networking while simultaneously supporting sustainable growth for telecom operators.
