StorageMart Opens a Stunning New Facility in Brighton with a Modern Twist on Historic Restoration

StorageMart's New Brighton Storage Facility

In a significant development for the self-storage industry, StorageMart has officially opened its latest facility on Wellington Road in Brighton. This state-of-the-art location stands as a shining example of how innovative design can breathe new life into historic structures. Originally a hosiery factory known as the "Glass Palace of Industry," this reimagined storage space showcases the perfect blend of historic restoration and modern convenience.

A Journey of Transformation

Dating back to its glory days, the former factory was a bustling hub providing employment to hundreds shortly after the post-war era. However, years of neglect left the building in a state of disrepair, at one point repurposed as a car breakers yard. When StorageMart acquired the property in 2021, they saw an opportunity to restore its former luster while enhancing the community with a contemporary self-storage solution.

Senior VP of Operations for StorageMart in the UK, Dan Saunders, noted the challenges they faced when first approaching the site. "It was hard to see past the heaps of automotive debris and the extensive contamination throughout the property," he explained. Highlighting their commitment to quality, Saunders added, "Our renovation process took longer than expected, but it was crucial for us to remediate every surface and preserve the building's architectural integrity."

The renovation, completed in November 2024, retained the distinctive saw-tooth roof design while upgrading the facility with modern amenities. Features such as advanced video surveillance, secure access control systems, and energy-efficient lighting make this facility not only a storage solution but a model of sustainability and security.

Supporting Local Economies

With a total of 18,250 square feet and a variety of 179 storage units of different sizes, the Wellington Road facility caters to a wide array of storage needs, from personal belongings to substantial business inventories. This aligns with the growing demand for flexible storage spaces in the Brighton and Hove area.

In an effort to support sustainable development, StorageMart has integrated eco-friendly systems, including plans for future electric vehicle charging stations and secure bike storage. This commitment to green practices reaffirms their dedication to environmental responsibility while serving the community's needs.

The new facility complements an existing presence on Chapel Road, enhancing accessibility for both residential and commercial clients from Shoreham to Brighton. With many larger-sized units available, the Wellington location aims to assist local entrepreneurs and creative professionals in pursuing their ventures without the financial burdens of long-term leases.

A Look Ahead

StorageMart recognizes the urgent need for flexible storage options, particularly as warehousing spaces have diminished across Sussex. The market is ripe for innovative offerings that cater to the changing landscape of local business operations. "Our easy, clean storage rooms provide the perfect environment to grow new ideas and projects," Saunders emphasized.

As the largest privately-owned self-storage operator globally, StorageMart continues to set the bar for excellence in service, sustainability, and innovation. Their latest facility in Brighton exemplifies a forward-thinking approach—one that honors the past while paving the way for future growth in the community.
