Great Minds PBC Unveils New Literacy Program for K-5 Students

In an impressive stride towards enhancing educational resources, Great Minds PBC has announced the launch of its inaugural foundational reading program tailored for students in grades K-5. Known as Arts & Letters®: Reading Foundations, this initiative aims to provide a systematic approach to developing proficient readers while nurturing their love for literature.

The Arts & Letters Reading Foundations curriculum is specifically designed to complement the highly regarded Arts & Letters® Language Arts program. By merging these two educational frameworks, Great Minds is committed to creating a cohesive literacy experience that promotes significant reading outcomes. The foundational reading solution encompasses crucial aspects such as systematic and explicit instruction in fundamental reading skills like phonics, decoding, and morphology. Additionally, it focuses on advanced spelling techniques and empowers students to read and write multisyllabic words effectively.

A key feature of this new program is its emphasis on vocabulary development and knowledge expansion across various subjects, including art, history, geography, and science. Through Arts & Letters Reading Foundations, students will engage with decodable texts that align with the knowledge-rich topics of the Arts & Letters Language Arts, ensuring they not only learn to read but also gain a broader understanding of their world through literature.

The program's structure incorporates formative assessments and tailored small group instruction within the Arts & Letters Reading Foundations curriculum. Notably, the daily routines differ between grades K-2 and 3-5 to reflect the natural progression of reading development. The curriculum focuses on explicit teaching with guided practice in the early grades, gradually transitioning older students towards independent work and exposure to more complex texts, alongside significant emphasis on reading fluency.
