Celebrating Innovation: The Highlights of the 2025 Taiwan International Student Design Competition

The 2025 Taiwan International Student Design Competition: A Showcase of Global Creativity

On December 9, 2025, the Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) celebrated its annual award ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of Education and executed by National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST). This year's event brought together an astounding 16,329 submissions from over 1,000 schools across 73 countries and regions, demonstrating unparalleled global engagement in the realm of design.

An Overview of the Competition's Success

The competitive landscape was fierce; out of thousands of entries, only 76 exceptional works were selected as winners, exemplifying the creativity and talent of young designers. Notably, Taiwan students performed exceptionally well, securing the prestigious Grand Prix as well as Gold Prizes in Visual Design and Fashion Design categories. A staggering total of 43 awards were granted to Taiwanese contestants, underscoring the robust artistic community present in the region.

Emphasizing the theme of 'Diversity,' this year's competition aimed to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants were encouraged to incorporate various cultural, environmental, and social perspectives in their designs, using their creativity as a vehicle for promoting inclusion and sustainable practices. The competition not only maintained its core categories of Product Design, Visual Design, and Digital Animation but also introduced two new categories: Architecture and Landscape Design, as well as Fashion Design. This reflects the growing trend of interdisciplinary practices within the field.

The Judging Process

An international panel comprising 50 professionals from 15 different countries undertook the challenging task of judging this year's entries. The 0.5% overall winning rate exemplifies the high level of competition and the rarity of awarded works. Participants competed for a substantial prize pool of nearly NTD 4 million, with each of the five categories offering a Grand, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Prize, plus several Honorable Mentions. Notably, the iSee Taiwan Foundation sponsored 21 International Design Association Special Prizes while the TPCA Environment Foundation provided three Environmental Sustainability Awards and six Special Region Awards, inspiring contestants to creatively address social issues and sustainability.

Highlights from the Award Ceremony

The award ceremony took place in the sophisticated setting of the NCCU Center for Public and Business Administration Education’s International Conference Hall. A special exchange session allowed winners from around the world to share their creative journeys and experiences, further enhancing the collaborative spirit among young designers. This session also featured insights from representatives of prominent International Design Organizations, who provided valuable feedback to help emerging talents improve their work and broaden their global perspective.

Exhibition of Creativity

Additionally, the Award-Winning Works Exhibition ran from December 9 to 14 at the NTUST Art Gallery. This event attracted design professionals, educators, and the general public, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the innovative designs presented by the young artists. The exhibition was not just a platform to showcase the winners but also served as an inspiring space for the community to engage with the fresh ideas of the next generation.
