EVE Energy Leads the Charge with World's First Series-Made 628Ah Large Battery Cell

EVE Energy's Pioneering 628Ah Large Battery Cell: A Breakthrough in Energy Storage

The energy storage industry is experiencing remarkable growth, with both systems and battery cells advancing at a rapid pace. EVE Energy, a frontrunner in battery technology, has recently unveiled the world's first mass-produced large battery cell with an impressive capacity of 628Ah. This milestone, reached on December 10th during the inauguration of their new 60GWh Super Energy Storage Factory in Jingmen, Hubei, signifies a significant leap in the quest for enhanced energy storage solutions.

While the global market has swiftly adopted batteries primarily based on 314Ah cells, EVE Energy has anticipated the trend towards higher capacity cells, introducing 560Ah batteries in 2022. The transition to 628Ah marks a bold innovation, positioning EVE Energy ahead of competitors.

Advantages of Increased Battery Capacity

The shift to larger battery cells offers significant advantages. Higher capacity translates to reduced costs and integration complexity for energy storage systems, improved energy density and safety, and streamlined component usage during the PACK phase, ultimately lowering assembly costs. Nonetheless, challenges around thermal management and overall efficiency of these large capacity cells remain.

To address these challenges, EVE Energy collaborated with Professor Yang Hanxi of Wuhan University to develop an electrochemical collection model based on sound electrochemical principles. Drawing inspiration from automotive low-drag design concepts, the company continually refines various parameters including the thickness of collection media and the positioning of tabs, enabling high-speed electron flow. This innovation notably reduces the internal resistance of battery cells, mitigating the risks associated with heat generation.

During the inauguration ceremony, EVE Energy unveiled its intelligent battery cell technology. This advanced system utilizes high-precision source perception to monitor critical signals throughout the battery's lifecycle, akin to how smartwatches track oxygen levels and heart rates. It continuously tracks parameters like gas emissions and temperatures, employing sophisticated database matching for real-time anomaly detection and prompting timely alerts and interventions.

The Super Energy Storage Factory: A Landmark in Production

To facilitate the mass production of the Mr. Big battery cells, EVE Energy's 60GWh Super Energy Storage Factory has been officially operational since December 10th. This virtual plant leverages digital twin technology, integrating automation, digitization, and low-carbon processes. The substantial size of large batteries poses unique challenges for production lines, on par with those faced during development phases.

Equipped with over 80 advanced industrial technologies and fully automated processes, EVE Energy's factory boasts significant production capabilities. The production line achieves an impressive average output of 1.5 cells per second, resulting in the completion of four battery packs every minute. Daily output exceeds 40 containers, each containing 5MWh, with the ability to deliver 1GWh in just five days.

To put this into perspective, 1GWh of batteries—considering a charge and discharge cycle of 300 times per year—can meet the annual energy needs of 300,000 households. Furthermore, benefiting from Jingmen’s unique industrial context, EVE has established integrated supply chains that have significantly decreased logistics and warehousing costs, enhanced collaboration efficiency, and fostered industrial growth through synergy.

The company adheres to a stringent quality management philosophy, achieving a product error rate at the levels of parts per billion (PPB). Through meticulous cleanliness standards and strict control measures, including a micro-level dust control of 0.5µm, EVE Energy aims for excellence in battery cell manufacturing. Each product comes equipped with a data package and battery passport, ensuring traceability throughout its lifecycle with a single click.

With a capacity exceeding 15GWh, this facility is currently the largest single energy storage factory in the industry, surpassing the capacities of Japanese and Korean competitors, which max out at 3-4GWh.

The successful launch of the Super Energy Storage Factory and mass production of the 628Ah cells accelerates EVE Energy's global capacity expansion, ensuring adequate supply to meet market demand. As the first company to achieve mass production of cells exceeding 600Ah, EVE Energy is poised to play a pivotal role in the global energy transition and sustainable development, delivering innovative solutions in this rapidly evolving sector.
