Hammes Healthcare Projects Shine in HREI Insights Awards

Hammes, a prominent name in real estate consulting and development, has made waves as a finalist in two prestigious categories for the 2025 Healthcare Real Estate Insights (HREI) Awards. This national awards program celebrates excellence in healthcare real estate development and executive leadership, making it a significant achievement for Hammes.

Finalist Projects
The awards are organized by HREI, which is based in Minneapolis and is dedicated to advancing the field through media coverage of healthcare real estate developments. Hammes' projects were recognized across diverse categories due to their innovative designs and efficient operations.

One notable project is the Surgery Center of Lee's Summit, located in Lee's Summit, Missouri. This facility has been nominated for the category of Best New Medical Office Buildings and Other Outpatient Facilities, specifically those under 25,000 square feet. With a total area of 18,800 square feet, the ambulatory surgery center was developed on the Lee's Summit Medical Center campus in partnership with Surgery Ventures, powered by HCA Healthcare, alongside 16 physician partners.

The Surgery Center of Lee's Summit is designed as a state-of-the-art facility that significantly enhances patient flow and accessibility. Equipped with three operating rooms and two procedure rooms featuring cutting-edge surgical technology, the center supports a variety of medical specialties. These include bariatrics, colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pain management, podiatry, and urology. Notably, Hammes sped up the development and construction processes, allowing for immediate patient care commencement in early 2025.

The second finalist project, the River Prairie Surgery Center in Altoona, Wisconsin, represents a unique redevelopment initiative. In this project, Hammes acquired a formerly vacant medical facility and worked in collaboration with Oakleaf Surgical Hospital to reshape the structure, transforming it into a 32,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center and medical office. By utilizing the existing framework, Hammes was able to expediently plan, develop, and build, resulting in the addition of two operating rooms, three procedure rooms, and enhanced specialty areas. Construction, which began in March 2025, was completed by late September 2025, enabling early occupancy and operational readiness compared to traditional timelines for new constructions.

Recognition of Excellence
Justin Shea, Principal at Hammes Partners, commented on the significance of these nominations, stating, "This recognition reflects Hammes' demonstrated development track record and commitment to delivering innovative, high-quality outpatient facilities that meet the evolving needs of healthcare providers and patients."

The winners of the 13th annual HREI Insights Awards will be announced on February 3, 2026, during the RevistaMed Medical Real Estate Investment Forum held in Palos Verdes, California. The event draws attention from various stakeholders in the medical real estate landscape, adding prestige to the unveiling of the winners.
