Surge in Skin Condition Consultations: Spring 2023
As the season of spring descends upon us, bringing with it a wave of new beginnings, many individuals face unique challenges regarding their skin's health. A recent survey conducted by Shisei Lab has illuminated this trend, revealing that an astounding
90.5% of aestheticians have noted an uptick in skin condition consultations during the months of March and April. The survey, conducted among
148 aestheticians associated with Shisei Lab, sheds light on the reasons behind these consultations.
Key Findings from the Survey
The survey highlights various skin concerns that emerge as the environment shifts in springtime. The most common issues cited include
dryness and tightness (65.5%), a heightened sensation of
sensitivity (64.9%), and visible
redness (51.4%). Additionally, other emerging concerns such as
pore visibility (32.4%) and
rough skin texture (24.3%) further underscore the diverse challenges clients face during this transitional period.
Season-Specific Factors Contributing to Skin Issues
A significant factor contributing to these skin concerns is the changing environment. A remarkable
91.9% of aestheticians mentioned that seasonal allergens like
pollen and dust play a crucial role in heightened skin sensitivity. Further,
77.7% of respondents linked skin issues to
sleep deprivation and irregular
lifestyles, while
50.7% noted the impacts of fluctuating temperatures and dryness. This correlation between environmental shifts and skincare highlights the necessity for individuals to adapt their skincare routines accordingly.
Common Skincare Habits and Omissions
With the onset of spring, busy lifestyles often lead to the neglect of fundamental skincare routines. The survey found that
76.4% of clients tend to
skip or
reduce the amount of moisturizing, while
56.1% occasionally neglect
UV protection. Other common habits include rushing through cleansing routines, which
45.9% of respondents indicated.
Such tendencies reflect how the busy pace of life impedes the consistency necessary for optimal skin health, which, in turn, exacerbates common skin issues during this season.
Aesthetician Recommendations for At-Home Skincare
Aestheticians at Shisei Lab are proactive in their recommendations for at-home care. Notably,
67.6% of respondents emphasized the importance of
consistent moisturizing, while
62.2% advocated for regular
UV protection practices. Additionally,
59.5% stressed the need for clients to maintain balanced
lifestyle rhythms that include adequate sleep and hydration. By focusing on these essential elements, individuals can better support their skin’s health amidst the seasonal challenges.
Prioritizing Skincare in Salon Treatments
At the salon level, providing personalized care becomes vital. An overwhelming
68.2% of aestheticians expressed that discussions centered around tailoring skincare routines according to the client’s skin condition and lifestyle factors were paramount. Other focal points included
56.1% agreeing on the importance of reviewing
home care techniques and
39.9% emphasizing the selection of seasonal skincare products.
