Tokyo's Happiness and Desired Living Environment Rankings for 2025 Released by Daiwa House

Tokyo's Happiness and Desired Living Environment Rankings for 2025

Daiwa House, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has conducted one of the most extensive surveys on residential satisfaction to reveal the "Tokyo Happiness Ranking 2025" and the "Tokyo Desired Living Environment Ranking 2025." This study represents a significant effort to gauge the sentiments of residents across various municipalities.

Methodology

The rankings are derived from responses to specific survey questions provided to over 98,000 residents in Tokyo, aged 20 and above. The happiness score is calculated by asking respondents to rate their overall happiness on a scale from 1 (very unhappy) to 10 (very happy). The average score is then multiplied by 10 to create a score out of 100.

For the desired living environment ranking, participants rated their feelings about wanting to stay in their current neighborhood, with scores given from 100 (strongly agree) to 0 (strongly disagree). These scores were then averaged to determine the final ranking. Survey responses from 2021 to 2025, including some from earlier years due to insufficient sample size, were considered to provide a comprehensive overview.

Key Findings

Happiness Ranking

For the first time, Hachijo Island (Hachijo Town) topped the happiness ranking with a score in the remarkable 80s, a significant achievement considering the municipality didn't meet the participant requirement in previous years. Following it closely were Minato and Chuo wards, both achieving high scores in the 70s. This indicates a positive trend in the perceived happiness among Tokyo's residents.

Desired Living Environment Ranking

The municipality that people wish to stay in the most is Musashino City, maintaining the top position for three consecutive years. Musashino also holds the highest rating in terms of residents' attachment to their city. It is followed by Meguro Ward and Bunkyo Ward, both consistently ranking at the top in aspects such as satisfaction of living and feelings of pride in their neighborhoods.

Station Rankings

In terms of stations, Daikanyama station once again secured the first place for four straight years. This area has become synonymous with highly rated living environments due to its blend of culture, accessibility, and community. Additionally, the newly consolidated area of Ariake A (including international exhibition venues) stands second, demonstrating a high level of happiness among its residents. Moreover, Suido-bashi station made a noteworthy leap from its previous ranking, moving up significantly.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

Overall, these rankings offer insightful views into the effects of city planning, quality of life, and community engagement in Tokyo. With more local governments showing an interest in enhancing resident satisfaction, we can anticipate further initiatives aimed at improving living conditions across the board.
