Transforming Airport Security: The Implementation of AI Robot Ugo Pro at Fukuoka Airport

Revolutionizing Airport Security with Ugo Pro

In a major advancement in airport safety, Ugo Corporation has announced the implementation of its AI security robot, Ugo Pro, at Fukuoka Airport. This cutting-edge technology will undergo pilot testing in both domestic and international passenger terminals, offering a glimpse into the future of airport security systems.

The Pilot Project

Fukuoka Airport, managed by Fukuoka Airport Co., is embracing a promising approach to security with Ugo Pro. The international terminal will feature collaboration with Nishikei Co., Ltd., initiating a pilot program in June 2026 which will integrate AI visual analysis systems for patrol security and anomaly detection. Meanwhile, at the domestic terminal, Fabilis Co., Ltd. employs Ugo Pro to conduct similar tests aimed at enhancing security services.

Addressing Challenges

With the International Passenger Terminal set to double in size to approximately 132,000㎡ by its grand opening in March 2025, addressing safety amidst increasing foot traffic has become critical. The growing inflow of passengers, particularly from abroad, necessitates an effective strategy to cover blind spots within spacious facilities and ensure safety during peak times.

To tackle these challenges, the airport has chosen to test a next-gen security system combining AI visual analysis and robotic patrols. The Ugo Pro's tasks include:

  • - Early Detection of Suspicious Activities: By sharing anomaly information, Ugo Pro can aid in response efforts by sending real-time footage from its patrols.
  • - Automated Patrols: Regular and irregular surveillance conducted by Ugo Pro will help identify hard-to-monitor areas throughout the expansive terminal.
  • - Crowd Management and Guidance: Utilizing crowd detection data, Ugo Pro will provide alerts and guidance to ensure passenger safety.
  • - Nighttime Patrols: During hours when human presence is minimal, Ugo Pro will automatically patrol to maintain security.

The results from these pilot projects will pave the way for further functional expansions and area coverage enhancements.
