New Tool for UV Degradation Estimation of Outdoor PVC Pipes
Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd., led by President Keita Kato, has announced the launch of an innovative tool designed to estimate the UV degradation of
PVC pipes based on installation conditions and the duration they have been in place. This tool, part of their
Environmental and Lifeline Company, allows users to assess the condition of their pipes without needing to consult manufacturers or research firms for paid evaluations.
This new, user-friendly tool empowers customers to self-assess the potential degradation of their pipes, offering valuable insights when deciding whether to undertake comprehensive inspections or renovations. Developed by the PVC manufacturing pioneer, Sekisui Chemical, this tool leverages the company's extensive expertise in resin technology and long-standing experience in diagnosing UV degradation.
Understanding the Risks of UV Degradation
UV exposure poses significant risks to PVC pipes, potentially leading to noticeable changes over a span of about five years. These changes include discoloration and increased brittleness of the pipe surface, making the pipes susceptible to cracking from unforeseen impacts or stresses. Signs of surface whitening or darkening indicate that the performance of the PVC pipes is declining, which could subsequently result in failure or leaks.
To maintain the integrity of these plastic pipes and ensure safe usage, Sekisui Chemical recommends implementing UV protective measures alongside regular inspections of pipe lifespans. Recognizing that customers may hesitate to immediately invest in paid assessments for outdoor pipe replacements, Sekisui has introduced the free UV degradation estimation tool, allowing customers to easily evaluate the effects of UV exposure on their piping.
Please note that this estimation is simplified and does not guarantee the actual condition of the products.
Should the tool indicate a need for further investigation or if users wish for detailed degradation assessments using actual materials, Sekisui Chemical offers comprehensive pipe degradation diagnostics (for a fee). These investigations can consider a myriad of complex usage conditions beyond just UV exposure.
