Discovering Self-Expression Through Art: The Adult Art Club
The Adult Art Club, offered by anohi LLC, has recently celebrated a significant milestone: over 10,000 participants have joined since its launch on March 1, 2022. Based in Meguro, Tokyo, this online subscription service aims to create a supportive community where adults can express themselves through art, especially during the transformative middle ages of life.
In today’s fast-paced world, folks often overlook the necessity of self-reflection and meaningful connections. The Adult Art Club provides a unique platform to bridge this gap by encouraging participants to explore their feelings and thoughts through creative expression. With over 70 courses offered monthly, members can engage with art freely and creatively. Each session fosters interaction, where participants not only create art but also engage in discussions with instructors and fellow attendees, thereby enhancing the communal experience despite being online.
Course Offerings
The Adult Art Club features a variety of engaging programs that cater to different artistic interests and self-exploration needs:
1.
End-of-Day Art: This program encourages participants to reflect on their daily emotions and experiences, fostering a habit of closing each day with creativity.
2.
Technique Art: Here, members can experiment with various art materials and techniques, focusing on enjoyment and self-discovery.
3.
In-depth Art: Each month, a renowned artist, such as Van Gogh or Picasso, is studied to inspire and challenge participants to mimic their styles, deepening their understanding of art history.

The Need for Third Spaces
Research indicates that since 2019, women’s sense of connection to society has been diminishing, while their overall enjoyment of life has stagnated. As we approach 2025, feelings of loneliness and lack of companionship are particularly prevalent among younger and middle-aged segments. Such insights highlight the importance of having a 'third place'—an environment outside of home and work where people can freely interact and unwind, ultimately contributing to enhanced well-being.
Targeting the midlife crisis faced by many women aged 40-60, the Adult Art Club facilitates self-exploration through art therapy, guided by professional instructors. As changes in life circumstances evoke anxiety and conflict, the club’s programs offer a lifeline for individuals to connect with various forms of expression, promoting self-awareness and acceptance.
The engagement between members and instructors fosters a sense of belonging and connection to society, fulfilling the growing need for a 'third place' in today’s society.
