MemorialCare's Medical Centers Earn Prestigious Best Hospitals Award for Women's Healthcare Excellence

MemorialCare's Orange Coast Medical Center and Saddleback Medical Center have proudly received the Best Hospitals designation from the Women's Choice Award, recognizing their ongoing commitment to high-quality care tailored for women. This accolade underscores the hospitals' dedication to excellence and safety, as affirmed by the very women who trust these facilities for their healthcare needs.

Key Highlights from the Award

The Women's Choice Award showcases exceptional achievements by Orange Coast Medical Center, placing it among the top providers in various categories: it ranks in the top 4% for Breast Care, top 5% for Women's Services, top 6% in Bariatrics, top 7% in Mammogram Imaging, top 9% in Cancer Care, and top 10% in Obstetrics. Meanwhile, Saddleback Medical Center shines with a rank in the top 1% for Heart Care, top 4% for Women's Services, and top 6% in Mammogram Imaging.

"This recognition is both an honor and a testament to the commitment of our teams to provide a safe, nurturing environment for our patients," stated Marcia Manker, CEO of both hospitals. This endorsement from women further reinforces the level of trust placed in these facilities.

Behind the Methodology

The selection process for the Best Hospitals involved comprehensive surveys with feedback from thousands of women, alongside public data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This methodology employed collaborative research with the Wharton School of Business, focusing on factors influencing female consumers' healthcare experiences compared to their male counterparts.

In a bid to better serve women, the recently opened Women's Health Pavilion at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center was designed with their specific healthcare needs in mind. The Women’s Hospital, in addition, has completely renovated its Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) suites, aiming to create a supportive, spa-like atmosphere for new mothers. These suites feature lavender-scented towels, celebratory brunches for moms, and specially equipped birthing tubs. It’s worth noting that the clinical outcomes are promising, maintaining a cesarean birth rate of 23.2% for first-time, low-risk mothers, which exceeds national standards.

Meanwhile, Orange Coast Medical Center has enhanced its offerings, providing lactation classes in multiple languages, including Vietnamese and English, to cater to a diverse group of women.

Empowering Healthcare Choices

The Women's Choice Award plays a crucial role in empowering women, offering them reliable healthcare information and identifying premier hospitals to aid in informed decision-making. It is no secret that women contribute to approximately 90% of healthcare choices for their families in the United States. By directing attention to healthcare providers prioritizing women’s experiences, the award fosters smarter healthcare decisions among families nationwide.

"Being recognized as a hospital women trust is more than a distinction; it is our responsibility," Manker emphasized. "This honor motivates us to keep exceeding standards of care for women, ensuring they receive the necessary support and guidance for optimal health."
