Space Shift Selected for Tokyo's Development Grant for Space Technology Solutions

Space Shift Selected for Development Grant

The Japanese company, Space Shift Inc., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is pleased to announce that it has been chosen for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's grant program aimed at supporting the development of space technology solutions. Specifically, Space Shift's project titled "Development of a Detection System for Illegal Fishing Vessels Using Multi-SAR Integration" has been approved for funding under the program known as "Space Product Development Expense Subsidy (Solution Development Assistance)."

Background of the Development

In recent years, illegal fishing has emerged as a significant economic and environmental problem globally. This issue not only results in substantial financial losses but also threatens the sustainability of oceanic resources. Traditional monitoring methods have faced challenges, particularly when vessels intentionally cease transmitting their position signals, making detection difficult.

To address this, Space Shift has been advancing its service utilizing proprietary satellite data analysis technology to automatically detect vessels at sea. The current project aims to enhance this technology by combining data from multiple satellites, enabling the detection of suspicious vessels that do not transmit signals at a higher frequency. This development will lead to the creation of a sophisticated monitoring system that elevates maritime surveillance capabilities.

Project Overview

  • - Project Name: Development of a Detection System for Illegal Fishing Vessels Using Multi-SAR Integration
  • - Category: Space Product Development Expense Subsidy (Solution Development Assistance)
  • - Approval Information URL: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Press Release

This initiative focuses on developing a unique methodology for processing integrated data from various satellites, with an emphasis on improving detection accuracy.

The goal is to implement a Japan-specific maritime monitoring solution that assists relevant ministries, local governments, and marine-related businesses in the early detection of illegal fishing and the efficient regulation of fishing activities. Through this project, Space Shift aims to contribute to enhancing maritime security and achieving sustainable fishing practices.
