About Ishikawa Basket Shop
Founded in 1907, Ishikawa Basket Shop is operated by Ishikawa LLC and is one of the few remaining specialty shops dedicated to 'living baskets' in Tokyo. The store has continued to thrive since its establishment, showcasing handcrafted baskets and tools made from natural materials from both Japan and abroad. In 2014, the shop was passed down to the fifth generation after the sudden loss of the fourth-generation owner.
The current owners have backgrounds in teaching Japanese and have successfully expanded the business, both domestically and internationally, as 'Ichikawa Basket Shop' in Japan and '1basketry' globally. They are committed to promoting the allure and practical use of natural materials and focus on sharing the stories behind the makers and materials through their official journal and video content.
