Every Thursday morning, this inspector made a three-hour trek to personally check the eruv for any breaks. However, this manual inspection method was unsustainable. As Jerry Kestenbaum, CEO of Aware Buildings, stated, "When I learned that the rabbi inspecting the eruv every Thursday had not been able to take a vacation for 18 years, I realized that technology could provide a solution."

The Groundbreaking System

The newly implemented system utilizes 142 tilt sensors, each affixed to a wire and connected to nearby lamp posts across Manhattan. These sensors transmit their positions every hour across the X, Y, and Z axes. If a wire breaks or shifts, the sensor's orientation changes significantly, triggering an immediate alert that is sent via text and email to both the eruv administrators and the responsible maintenance team at Spectrum on Broadway.

Instead, they designed a custom networking solution paired with durable, waterproof sensors to withstand the rigors of the urban environment.
