Seminar on AI Strategies and ICT Startup Support



As part of the 2025 Information and Communication Month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will host a seminar titled "AI Strategies and ICT Startup Support." This significant event will take place on June 6, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 4:45 PM. Attendance is free, and participants can join either in-person at the Kioi Forum in Tokyo or via Zoom Webinar.

The seminar brings together a panel of distinguished speakers, including:
  • - Masayuki Matsui, Director of the Technical Policy Division at the Ministry.
  • - Misako Ando, Head of the Entrepreneur Support Office at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).
  • - Michiko Sugihara, President of For Ideal Japan.
  • - Masashi Asai, Chief Analyst at AironWorks Cybersecurity Research.
  • - Ken Katayama, Department Head of Digital Transformation Promotion at Toyota Motor Corporation.

Agenda Highlights


1. Technology Strategy for Strengthening International ICT Competitiveness
Masayuki Matsui will discuss the Ministry's efforts to enhance Japan's international competitiveness in the ICT sector. He will address the necessity of securing autonomy and essential capabilities in anticipation of the AI society of the 2030s, as well as the strategic implementation of Beyond 5G technologies and startup initiatives.

2. Supporting Regional ICT Startups
Misako Ando will share insights on NICT's initiatives to foster ICT startups across regions. This includes programs such as the National Accelerator Program, which has supported emerging entrepreneurs for over two decades.

3. Creating Global ICT Startups from Local Roots
Michiko Sugihara will focus on the importance of local entrepreneurship and how it can drive global innovations. She will highlight unique programs aimed at social implementation of innovations born from regional challenges.

4. Panel Discussion on Startup Support for Japan's Innovation Landscape
This closing session will feature a discussion among experts, including Asai, Ando, Katayama, and Sugihara, on strategies for fostering innovation through ICT startups, focusing on public policy, support mechanisms, and current technological trends in AI and cybersecurity.
