Zentiva’s 2025 Sustainability Report Marks Progress in Global Health Initiatives and Environmental Responsibility
Zentiva has recently shared its 2025 Sustainability Report, which underscores the company's unwavering commitment to public health, environmental stewardship, and responsible business practices. The report reveals that in the operational year of 2025, Zentiva not only met its sustainability goals but also improved its overall impact across various domains.
Emphasizing the balance between operational growth and ecological responsibility, Zentiva managed to reduce its CO2 emissions by 10% while simultaneously experiencing growth in net sales and an increase in EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization). These milestones reflect the dedication of the company to integrate sustainability within its core operations.
A significant part of Zentiva's sustainability goals has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which confirmed both short- and long-term targets aimed at cutting emissions in scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 63% by 2034 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. These ambitious goals set a transformative precedent in the pharmaceutical industry.
Key achievements highlighted in the 2025 report include the fact that 83% of the electricity consumed in Zentiva's operations originated from renewable sources. Remarkably, all manufacturing sites within the EU operated on 100% renewable energy. Additionally, water reuse volume nearly doubled from 2021 to 2025, demonstrating effective resource management and innovation.
The company has successfully recovered 47% of its waste through recycling, reuse, or repurposing. These efforts extended to nature, with Zentiva planting over 130,000 trees and adopting 3.5 million bees as part of its initiatives aimed at supporting biodiversity and enhancing corporate responsibility. The commitment to social causes is evident with over 120 projects executed for communities across Europe and India, encapsulated in their initiative dubbed #WeHelpOthers.
Moreover, Zentiva received a Gold Medal from EcoVadis, placing its sustainability program among the top 2% of pharmaceutical companies, an impressive recognition of its ongoing endeavors in transparency and sustainable reporting practices, as highlighted by the Transparency Award 2025 from EUPD Group.
"As one of the leading generic pharmaceutical manufacturers in Europe, we take our responsibility seriously to support public health systems while simultaneously mitigating our negative impacts on the planet," stated Steffen Saltofte, CEO of Zentiva. The report reveals how their daily activities improve community health and environmental conditions, emphasizing that protecting people and the planet is interlinked.
Ines Windisch, the Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Zentiva, further reiterated, "Sustainability means an ongoing commitment we must embrace every day, in everything we do." The company plays a crucial role in ensuring that European residents have access to affordable, high-quality medications. Generic medications represent nearly 70% of all dispensed drugs while accounting for only 19% of pharmaceutical spending, making them essential for the affordability and sustainability of healthcare systems (IQVIA, 2024).
Zentiva remains focused on investing in its production facilities and advancing its sustainability strategy to guarantee that patients will have continued access to the medications they need now and in the future.
