PTC has taken a significant step forward in the integration of artificial intelligence within product development by announcing the launch of the Onshape Labs™ initiative. This new program, part of PTC’s innovative Onshape® cloud-native CAD and PDM platform, allows users to interact with cutting-edge functionalities earlier in the development cycle through an early-access program.

With hints that broader access is on the horizon, PTC’s initiative aims to put these advanced capabilities into the hands of engineering teams more quickly, facilitating a shift from traditional CAD methodologies to those that embrace AI and real-time data.

A New Era for CAD Systems

Historically, most Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems were not equipped to integrate AI as a core component. However, Onshape’s cloud-native architecture is built to enable a seamless flow of real-time design decision data, which is essential for training AI systems to understand design intent and to act intelligently on it. As a result, Onshape Labs can empower engineers with automation tools that enhance their everyday workflows.
