Empowering Women Through Connection: 'Hikikomori UX Women's Group' Event on September 25

Empowering Women Through Connection

On September 25 in Hino City, an insightful event titled 'Hikikomori UX Women's Group' will be held, catering specifically to women who are experiencing isolation or various life difficulties. Simultaneously, there will be another gathering, the 'Connecting Waiting Room', created for families and interested individuals to come together and support each other.

Recent findings from a 2023 Cabinet Office survey estimate that approximately 1.46 million people aged 15-64 in Japan are in a state of hikikomori (social withdrawal), with women accounting for a significant portion of this demographic. Notably, the survey reported that among women aged 15-39, 45.1% are in this situation, while for those aged 40-64, the figure rises to 52.3%. This highlights a considerable challenge faced by women in society.

Many women, reportedly confined to traditional roles such as homemakers or caregivers, have lost connections with the outside world, leading to feelings of isolation and distress. The event aims to address these issues and create a safe space where women can express their struggles without hesitation. It recognizes the barriers women often encounter when seeking help, particularly when discussing sensitive topics with men or in male-dominated spaces. Thus, a crucial aim is to establish an environment where they can freely share their experiences and emotions.

The 'Hikikomori UX Women's Group' will feature:
- Date and Time: September 25 (Thursday), 2 PM to 4:30 PM (doors open at 1:40 PM)
- Venue: Hirayamako Community Center, 3rd Floor Large Hall
- Program:
- Part 1: Experience sharing from participants with hikikomori backgrounds (approximately 40 minutes)
- Part 2: Group discussion exclusive to participants (1 hour and 30 minutes)
- Registration: Not required
- Capacity: 60 participants (first come, first served)

Simultaneously, the 'Connecting Waiting Room' will take place:
- Time: September 25 (Thursday), 3 PM to 4:30 PM (registration begins at 2:45 PM)
- Venue: Hirayamako Community Center, 2nd Floor Meeting Room 1
- Program: A casual gathering for individuals with family members in hikikomori situations, those providing support, or anyone interested, regardless of age or gender, to meet and engage in conversation.
- Registration: Not required
- Capacity: 30 participants (first come, first served)

Participants are encouraged to come as they are, with the understanding that every individual deserves to feel connected and supported. This event is about fostering a collective sense of connection and alleviating the isolation faced by many women today. Let’s create a space where everyone understands that they are not alone in their journeys.
