Beko's Commitment to Water Conservation
On March 22, in celebration of World Water Day, Beko is raising awareness about the critical need for water preservation in light of its impact on both the environment and household budgets. With the theme focusing on 'Preserving Glaciers,' Beko emphasizes that every small action in water saving can lead to significant economic benefits for families worldwide.
The Direct Connection Between Water Use and Glaciers
Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Beko, pointed out the intrinsic link between glaciers and the water used in homes. He stated, “Every drop of water saved in homes across the globe contributes to our collective efforts to combat water scarcity, exacerbated by glacier retreat due to climate change. The accelerated melting of glaciers serves as a stark reminder of our planet's interconnections.” Bulgurlu continued, “As glaciers continue to recede, each decision to save water at home becomes increasingly significant.”
Technology Innovations in Water-Saving Appliances
Beko has been at the forefront of developing technology-driven solutions that promote water efficiency. The company's modern appliances, including dishwashers and washing machines, consume significantly less water compared to older models. For instance, dishwashers that once used around 20 liters of water per cycle have reduced their consumption to under 10 liters. Similarly, washing machines have improved from over 65 liters to approximately 46 liters per wash cycle by 2022.
Highlighted Products
- - SaveWater Dishwasher: Uses only 6.9 liters of water per full load. Through innovative technology, it reuses water from the final rinse, saving an additional 2.6 liters per Eco cycle.
- - SaveWater Washing Machine: Works in tandem with the dishwasher to utilize recycled water collected during drying, enhancing efficiency.
- - AI-Powered Dishwasher: Automatically adjusts its settings based on load size and dirt levels, optimizing the washing cycle for maximum efficiency with up to 50% savings in water and energy.
A Broader Commitment to Sustainability
Beko's dedication to water efficiency extends beyond just product innovation. The company is committed to reducing water extraction in its manufacturing processes by 25% by 2040. This initiative also includes a target to increase water recycling rates to 35% across all production facilities.
Climate Action Goals
In alignment with global climate objectives, Beko aims for net-zero emissions by 2050. They recognize that protecting water resources is crucial in combating climate change. Short-term goals include a 42% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and the same percentage cut for Scope 3 emissions. For long-term goals, they are striving for a dramatic 90% reduction in these emissions by 2050.
Bulgurlu remarked, “Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to renewable energies are essential for glacier conservation. We aim to have our entire production powered by 100% green electricity by 2030.”
Encouraging Action
Beko urges individuals to contribute to water conservation by:
- - Choosing water-efficient appliances
- - Adopting water-saving habits at home
- - Supporting organizations focused on glacier conservation
As World Water Day approaches, Beko reaffirms its dedication to glacier preservation, responsible water management, and collaborating for a water-secure future for all.
