ADAMA and BASF's Strategic Partnership to Launch Innovative Gilboa® Fungicide Technology

ADAMA and BASF Join Forces for Agricultural Innovation

ADAMA Ltd. and BASF Agricultural Solutions have recently announced a strategic partnership that aims to revolutionize crop protection with the introduction of Gilboa®, an innovative fungicide technology. This collaboration focuses on combining ADAMA's established fungicide active ingredient with BASF's extensive development capabilities, thus setting the stage for the future of disease management in European agriculture.

The Significance of Gilboa® Fungicide

Gilboa® (flumetylsulforim) represents a groundbreaking advancement in disease control, particularly for cereal crops. As farmers across Europe grapple with increasing regulatory constraints and the decline of effective active ingredients, the demand for new solutions has never been higher. Gilboa offers a novel approach by employing a unique mode of action that operates through nucleic acid metabolism, as classified by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC). This innovation is poised to equip cereal growers with a robust tool to secure both yield and quality in their crops.

Collaboration Details

Under the terms of the agreement, BASF is responsible for developing and commercializing new formulations based on ADAMA's Gilboa technology, while also managing certain proprietary Gilboa products. This partnership draws on ADAMA's deep understanding of crop needs and formulation expertise while leveraging BASF's market access and development strengths. Each company will operate independently in strategizing their market concepts, pricing, and sales initiatives, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in the competitive agricultural landscape.

Expectations and Future Launch

The timeline for product introductions is strategically laid out. Initial Gilboa-based formulations for wheat are expected to launch in Great Britain in 2027, with wider availability planned for the rest of Europe by 2029. This phased rollout is designed to allow time for necessary regulatory approvals and to ensure readiness among farmers who will benefit from these innovative solutions.

Farmers' Needs Addressed

Florian Wagner, Executive Vice President of Portfolio and Innovation at ADAMA, emphasized the urgency of addressing farmers' needs for reliable crop protection. He stated,
