Smartee Highlights Clinical Approaches for Complex Class II Cases at SIDO 2026

Smartee Denti-Technology recently participated in the 57th International Congress SIDO, which was held in Turin, Italy from October 8 to 10, 2026. The event brought together orthodontic professionals to discuss intricate clinical practices and the growing influence of digital technologies in making informed clinical decisions.

Under the motto "Beyond Alignment: Interdisciplinarity, Artificial Intelligence, and Clinical Competence in Orthodontic Decision-Making," the congress highlighted a significant shift towards therapeutic strategies that merge digital tools with clinical proficiency and interdisciplinary evaluations. Smartee took this opportunity to present its clinical approach to managing complex malocclusions, reinforcing its commitment to the Italian orthodontic community.

Addressing Class II Complexities through Mandibular Repositioning

A key focus during Smartee's participation was the clinical presentation by Dr. Jingting Lu, titled "S8-SGTB: Correction of Severe Class II Skeletal Discrepancies." This presentation provided insights into a novel method for treating skeletal Class II malocclusion associated with mandibular retrusion—an issue often resulting in both skeletal discrepancies and convex facial profiles.

Depending on individual diagnoses and severity, conventional therapeutic options for such cases may include orthodontic camouflage or, in selected instances, orthognathic surgery. However, Dr. Lu introduced the clinical application of S8-SGTB, a part of the innovative Smartee GS system, which combines mandibular repositioning with treatment using clear aligners. Her presentation covered critical aspects, including patient selection, evaluation of mandibular position, and treatment planning for patients experiencing Class II skeletal discrepancies.

For patients appropriately selected, mandibular repositioning emerges as an additional therapeutic option that considers both mandibular positioning and dental movement, alongside occlusal management. Moreover, Dr. Lu emphasized an overarching principle of the GS system: to assess mandibular relationships along sagittal, vertical, and transverse dimensions rather than focusing solely on dental alignment.

Strengthening Presence in the Italian Market

Smartee's involvement in SIDO 2026 also marks the ongoing development of the company within the Italian orthodontic landscape. Through scientific meetings, clinical training, and direct engagement with local orthodontic professionals, Smartee is dedicated to enhancing knowledge exchange and gaining a deeper understanding of the clinical needs faced by Italian orthodontists.

Italy continues to be a focal point for Smartee's academic activities across Europe. Following the Smartee European Summit 2026 held in Mallorca that gathered nearly 300 orthodontic experts and clinicians from 27 countries, the company plans to host the next European Summit in Rome in 2027. Smartee’s participation in SIDO, along with its anticipated return to Italy for the 2027 European Summit, underscores the company’s enduring commitment to bolstering clinical and academic engagement within the Italian market.
