Supporting Sustainable Communities: Pal-system Group's 2026 Fund Grant

The Pal-system Federation, located in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, is embarking on its newest mission in sustainability with the announcement of applications for the 2026 Community Creation Fund. From August 1 to September 30, community organizations across Japan have the opportunity to apply for this crucial funding.

This initiative harnesses surplus profits generated from consumer goods and services. These funds are then accumulated into the Community Creation Fund, aiming to financially assist producers, manufacturers, and regional activities in collaborative efforts with groups across the Pal-system.

A Historical Commitment to Recovery and Support

Since its establishment in 2000, the grant has focused on advancing agricultural, forestry, and fishery industries, alongside promoting a resource-circulating society. In response to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, the fund shifted its focus to support recovery efforts in affected areas, worked hand-in-hand with direct producers, and helped implement measures against radiation.

Currently, the fund supports various initiatives that aim to revitalize areas affected by significant disasters, enhance the agricultural, forestry, and fishery sectors, and encourage environmental conservation efforts across local communities.

Funding Categories for this Grant Cycle

The 2026 Community Creation Fund targets several specific categories for its assistance:
1. Disaster Recovery: Projects supporting recovery in areas impacted by major disasters.
2. Agricultural Development: Initiatives that connect food with agriculture, enhancing vitality in rural areas.
3. Environmental Conservation: Projects aimed at building a resource-circulating society and promoting environmental stewardship.
4. Renewable Energy: Activities that advocate for the use of renewable energy solutions.
5. Radiation Pollution Reduction: Support initiatives aimed at overcoming the challenges posed by radiation contamination in domestic agricultural sectors.
6. Fair Trade Promotion: Encouragement and support for fair trade practices.
7. Other Initiatives: Supplemental activities that align with the fund's purpose as determined appropriate by the operational committee.

Application Assessment

Evaluations for the submitted applications will be conducted by the Community Creation Fund’s Operational Committee, chaired by Michiko Ohira of Pal-system Gunma. Notifications regarding the outcomes will be sent out to all applying organizations in early February 2027, with grant distributions aiming to occur by March of the same year.

Previous Beneficiaries

One successful beneficiary from the 2025 funding cycle was Morimorifarm Co., Ltd. in Hokkaido. They practice environmentally sustainable farming, cultivating various crops like soybeans and azuki beans. By employing and supporting underprivileged and disabled individuals within the community, they received funding to acquire a color sorter machine, which enhanced both efficiency and production capacity.
