Duke Energy Foundation Grants Funding for Civic Engagement in Florida

The Duke Energy Foundation has made a significant financial investment towards enhancing civic learning and remembrance practices across Florida. As part of the final round of grants under the America250 initiative, the Foundation has allocated a total of $77,500 to seven nonprofit organizations dedicated to fostering civic engagement and historical awareness within their communities.

A Focus on Civic Learning

One notable initiative includes a youth civics competition organized by the Osceola Chamber Foundation, which received $8,000 to host the National Civics Bee for middle school students from Central Florida. This event aims to enrich students' understanding of civic duties and historical context, empowering them to actively participate in their communities. The three standout winners from this competition will have the opportunity to advance to the Florida state finals later this month.

Additionally, the Duval Preservation Trust is utilizing a $2,500 grant to create an immersive exhibit at the historic Duval-Metz House. This educational project focuses on the invaluable skills of the Seminole Tribe and their ability to thrive in the Florida wilderness, spotlighting the state's indigenous heritage.
