ELC Invests $1.5 Million in 2026 Class of Business Scholars
The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) has proudly announced its Class of 2026 Scholars, bestowing an impressive total of $1.5 million in scholarships to a diverse group of 100 students hailing from numerous colleges and universities across the nation. This initiative underscores ELC's commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation of leaders in business.
The 2026 cohort features students from 46 different institutions, with a significant percentage (nearly 75%) attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This move not only highlights the vital role these institutions play in shaping future leaders but also emphasizes diversity in business sectors ranging from finance and engineering to data science and cybersecurity.
Michael C. Hyter, President and CEO of ELC, states, "For nearly 40 years, The ELC has understood that strong leadership pipelines must be built intentionally. These scholars are already showcasing the academic excellence, leadership skills, and determination that will enable them to make significant contributions to the businesses and organizations they will serve in the future."
The vibrant array of academic interests illustrated by the scholars includes disciplines such as computer science, finance, engineering, business management, and healthcare. Among them, 25 students specialize in computer science and cybersecurity, while 22 focus on finance and 17 study business management. This variety showcases ELC’s approach to recognizing and fostering talent across a broad spectrum of careers.
Leah N. Wade, Senior Director of Philanthropy at The ELC, reinforces the transformative power of scholarships, particularly for first-generation college students. She notes that for many in this group, receiving financial aid is crucial to expanding their professional horizons. "Every dollar a student can avoid borrowing enhances their financial standing when they enter the workforce. It allows them to make more informed decisions about their careers and to embark on their working lives with momentum."
The 2026 scholarship class is not only distinguished by their academic prowess but also by their robust leadership experiences. A remarkable 95% of these scholars have documented leadership experiences on their campuses, and 65% have secured internships, equipping them with essential professional skillsets before graduation. Furthermore, about 30% of them are pioneers in their families as the first to attend college, emphasizing the importance of such support programs.
As ELC marks its 40th anniversary, the organization reflects on its mission to ensure a sustainable leadership pipeline prepared to navigate the complexities of today's business landscape. The Class of 2026 is not just a cohort of scholarship recipients; they represent a long-term investment in the future of leadership and achievement.
The scholarships are made possible through various legacies and sponsorships from companies and foundations like the Coca-Cola Foundation, Ecolab, and HSBC. These contributions affirm the commitment of these partners to fostering leadership amongst emerging talents.
In celebration of this significant milestone, the ELC will host the 2026 Recognition Gala on October 30 at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland. This black-tie event will be hosted by television journalist Kevin Frazier and will include a musical performance by the legendary Chaka Khan. The gala represents not just a celebration of achievements but also a platform for fostering connections among business leaders and emerging talents across various sectors.
Throughout the upcoming weeks of the Gala, ELC will organize events aimed at helping scholars connect with executives from various companies. This setup allows for mentorship and networking as the scholars prepare to step into their professional roles. The future looks promising, with The ELC at the forefront, dedicated to developing leaders who will excel within their communities and industries in the coming years. The Class of 2026 stands as a testament to this commitment—illuminating the path toward a brighter, more inclusive future for business leadership in America.
