BUMA Australia Secures Multi-Year Contract with Whitehaven Coal

In a significant development for the mining sector in Queensland, BUMA Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of PT Bukit Makmur Mandiri Utama, has secured a substantial contract extension valued at approximately AU$740 million with Blackwater Operations Pty Ltd, a division of Whitehaven Coal Mining Limited. This multi-year agreement guarantees BUMA Australia a continued role in providing essential pre-strip mining services at the Blackwater Mine, one of Australia’s largest open-cut metallurgical coal operations, through June 2030.

Securing the Future of Blackwater Mine

This contract renewal is a testament to BUMA Australia’s established expertise and commitment to operational excellence in one of Australia's most technically challenging mining environments. Johan Ballot, CEO of BUMA Australia, emphasized the trust that Whitehaven has in their capabilities, stating that the partnership not only highlights their technical proficiency but also reflects a shared commitment to safety and efficiency.

The Blackwater Mine, located about 20 kilometers south of the township of Blackwater in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, spans a significant 80-kilometer strike length across multiple pits. It has been a crucial economic driver for the region, providing jobs and supporting local businesses. Since beginning operations at Blackwater in 2012, BUMA Australia has employed around 390 permanent staff, showcasing their commitment to local employment and community development.

A Legacy of Excellence

BUMA Australia's reputation in the mining industry is further bolstered by its meticulous approach to safety and advanced operational technology. The company utilizes cutting-edge monitoring systems, integrating both third-party and in-house resources for predictive maintenance, which enhances their operational reliability and efficiency.

Iwan Fuad Salim, Director of BUMA International Group, remarked on how this partnership reinforces their portfolio of Tier-1 operations, highlighting the strategic alignment with high-quality clients that ensures the long-term stability of earnings. He mentioned that this renewed collaboration will help in sustaining a framework for growth and diversification while fostering essential local engagements.

Community Engagement and Sustainability Initiatives

Beyond mining operations, BUMA Australia actively promotes community welfare in Central Queensland. The firm invests in local initiatives aimed at job creation and skills training, particularly through dedicated programs for First Nations employment. Their involvement extends into community sponsorship, supporting regional sporting teams and local events, which strengthens community ties.

BUMA Australia stands as a leading player in the mining sector, not only through its contracts but also through its ongoing commitment to regional development. With this contract extension, BUMA is set to continue playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of mining in Australia, delivering services that balance financial success with community well-being.
