Tsumura Launches New Project for Menstrual Health Support
On October 19, ahead of International Menstrual Hygiene Day, Tsumura Co., Ltd. announced the launch of an important initiative called "Let's Talk About Menstrual Concerns". This project aims to raise awareness about the significance of consulting gynecologists for personalized coping strategies related to menstrual discomfort.
The Launch at the Press Conference
At the press conference, the event featured Kasumi Mori, a women’s health advocate who shared her experiences with menstrual issues. Mori highlighted the need for open dialogue and professional guidance when dealing with menstrual symptoms, encouraging others to take proactive steps toward their health.
According to a survey conducted by Tsumura in August 2025, 75.8% of women aged 19 to 34 have considered menstrual discomfort as something normal, leading them to neglect proper coping measures. Mori noted, "As I turned 30, I began to prioritize understanding my body better. However, when I was in my twenties, I often convinced myself that my menstrual issues were not serious enough to warrant consultation with anyone."
In an enlightening response, Dr. Seiko Kato from the Kyushu University Faculty of Medicine emphasized the importance of addressing menstrual-related discomfort. She explained that dismissing these issues could lead to worsening symptoms, as underlying health conditions may be present. She advised early consultations to prevent further complications.
The Encouraging Message from Kuromi
The project includes an engaging new commercial featuring Kuromi, the iconic character, as the face of the initiative. Mori appreciated the lighthearted and friendly tone of the ad, saying, "It makes reaching out for help feel easier, especially with Kuromi’s encouraging message not to suffer in silence."
Mori reminisced about her previous hesitancy in seeking gynecological care for menstrual symptoms, wrongly perceiving them as unworthy of medical attention. However, a conversation with a gynecologist revealed otherwise, providing her with relief and effective coping mechanisms.
Dr. Kato reiterated that many young women hesitate to visit gynecologists due to misconceptions surrounding the field, emphasizing that discussions about menstrual health are vital for overall well-being.
