The popular food court brand, Puppo, a part of Ito-Yokado, has recently celebrated a significant milestone with its new frozen foods series, marking an impressive 500,000 units sold within just two months of its launch. This surge in sales can be attributed to the introduction of ‘Puppo's Fried Chicken,’ set to be launched sequentially in 196 stores, including Ito-Yokado and other affiliated outlets starting from June 8, 2026.
The Puppo frozen food series was developed with the ambition to bring the beloved flavors of Puppo’s offerings into homes, allowing families to enjoy these tasty meals conveniently. Since its debut in April 2026, the series has exceeded sales expectations, achieving over 200% of its projected sales figures. Such outstanding performance has established it as a leading choice within Ito-Yokado's frozen food lineup.
In response to changing family dynamics, such as the increase of dual-income households and diverse lifestyles that emphasize convenience, the frozen food market has seen significant growth. Recognizing this trend, Ito-Yokado has prioritized frozen foods in its strategic offerings, optimizing store layouts and enhancing the product selection available to customers. For the fiscal year ending in 2025, the overall sales of frozen food are projected to rise by approximately 8% compared to the previous year.
Despite a stable performance from the frozen snacks category over the past year, Ito-Yokado sought to invigorate this segment by transforming Puppo's beloved light meal options, like French fries and imagawayaki, into frozen products. This innovation has successfully sparked new demand in the market.
The outcome of introducing the Puppo frozen food series has been notably positive. Existing store sales within the ‘frozen snacks’ category have increased by around 15% from April to June, contributing significantly to the overall growth in frozen food sales.
The new ‘Puppo's Fried Chicken’ is designed for easy preparation in the microwave, taking only approximately two minutes to cook. Made with tender and juicy chicken thigh, seasoned with original spices, this dish can be enjoyed in various contexts, whether as a side dish, snack, or light meal. Ito-Yokado is committed to continuing its strategy of developing unique products that can only be found at their stores while listening to customer feedback to create offerings that enhance the daily lives of their community.
Puppo, established in 1975, currently operates 24 store locations mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, drawing in approximately 2.2 million customers each year.
