The Return of KIKUFUKU – A Delicious Collaboration with Tirol Chocolate

An Exciting Collaboration: KIKUFUKU and Tirol Chocolate

In a delightful resurgence of flavors, Tirol Chocolate Co., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced the release of "KIKUFUKU (Bag)" starting June 15, 2023. This scrumptious treat will gradually hit the shelves at York Benimaru, 7-Eleven stores in the Tohoku region, and the specialty shop "Kikusui-an" operated by the renowned tea dealer, Ocha no Ikeda.

A Sweet Reunion

This collaboration marks a significant reunion with the well-loved Sendai confection, KIKUFUKU. Tirol Chocolate first teamed up with the prestigious KIKUFUKU in 2022, presenting a delicate matcha-flavored cream mochi, which garnered praise for its authentic representation. Building on the success of that collaboration, they are now introducing a new assortment featuring the beloved Zunda flavor, which has become a staple in Japanese sweets culture. This time, it's packaged in a bag for our enjoyment!

The Irresistible Textures of KIKUFUKU

The KIKUFUKU treats perfectly encapsulate the chewy delight of mochi.

  • - Matcha Flavor: This variant cocoons a smooth red bean paste within a mochi-flavored dough and matcha cream layer. The careful balance of the chewy texture and the rich, slightly bitter matcha taste delivers an accessible yet sublime experience.

  • - Zunda Flavor: The Zunda variant wraps a zesty edamame paste in both zunda-flavored and traditional mochi dough, allowing the refreshing flavor of the edamame to shine through. Its subtle and sophisticated aroma offers a flavorful experience that's both indulgent and light.

Packaging Inspired by KIKUFUKU's Heritage

The design of this new product pays homage to the traditional KIKUFUKU, blending elegance with approachability. The central logo prominently displays the KIKUFUKU brand, ensuring a memorable and bold impression. Additionally, the packaging features clear illustrations of both the matcha and zunda cross-sections, making it visually enticing while conveying the deliciousness within. Each individually wrapped sweet also captures the essence of the original KIKUFUKU product, providing a familiar touch that warms the heart.

What is KIKUFUKU?

Founded in 1920 by the heritage tea shop Ocha no Ikeda, KIKUFUKU stands as a flagship item from their Kikusui-an line. The concept of "eating tea" is embodied in these delightful desserts, which enfold high-quality matcha cream and smooth red bean paste in soft mochi. Over the years, its popularity has soared, especially in Miyagi Prefecture, making it a cherished treat among locals and visitors alike.

Consumers can expect to find these tasty KIKUFUKU bites at York Benimaru, 7-Eleven stores in the Tohoku region, and Kikusui-an, starting from June 15, 2023.
