HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2025: A New Era in Mobile Photography

On June 16, 2025, the HUAWEI XMAGE Awards officially opened during the launch event of the HUAWEI Pura 80 smartphone. This annual competition offers a global platform for mobile photography enthusiasts to display their creativity and the impressive capabilities of modern imaging technology. Since its inception in 2017, the awards have attracted almost five million entries from creatives in 170 countries, solidifying its status as one of the largest and most influential mobile photography contests worldwide.

The XMAGE initiative from HUAWEI has revolutionized mobile photography by introducing groundbreaking features. These encompass telephoto lenses, macro photography, night mode capabilities, instant shooting, portrait features, color enhancements, and videography options. The recently unveiled HUAWEI Pura 80 smartphone embodies these innovations, paving the way for stunning visual storytelling.

In light of the newest product lineup, the 2025 XMAGE Awards will include several categories: From 'So Far So Close' to 'Good Night,' and 'Colour Shade,' alongside the traditional categories such as 'Faces,' 'A Heartwarming World,' 'Experimental Lab,' 'Storyboard,' and 'Action.' This year, the awards process will see a shift; the jury will select 1,000 exemplary works, culminating in the prestigious 'XMAGE 100,' which will receive special recognition. Additionally, three outstanding photographers will be honored as Photographer of the Year.

The judging panel for this edition features nine authoritative figures from diverse professional backgrounds, enhancing the credibility of the competition. Among the jurors are Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Liu Heung Shing, Chen Xiaobo, the editor-in-chief at Xinhua News Agency and imaging researcher; Wang Chuan, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and established artist; documentary photographer Chen Jie; visual sociologist Nichole Fernandez; Florence Bourgeois, director of Paris Photo; Shoair Mavlian, director of the Photographers' Gallery; visual arts curator Fannie Escoulen; and Li Changzhu, who leads strategy for the Huawei Health Team.
