Menlo Digital Breaks Ground on a New Data Center
Menlo Digital, a dedicated data center platform by Menlo Equities, has officially commenced construction of the MD-DC1 data center located in Herndon, Virginia. This state-of-the-art facility is set to provide an impressive 48 megawatts (MW) of critical IT capacity across its expansive two-story design, which spans 307,000 square feet.
The groundwork for this significant project was laid on October 22, 2025, signaling a pivotal moment not just for the company but for the evolution of digital infrastructure in the region. General Contractor Clune Construction is responsible for overseeing the construction progress.
A Comprehensive Expansion Strategy
The Herndon facility is an integral part of Menlo Digital’s extensive development strategy, encompassing a national pipeline exceeding 1.8 gigawatts (GW). This ambitious expansion covers several key markets, including Northern Virginia, Phoenix, Silicon Valley, Dallas, and Chicago. As explained by Jane Vaughan, Chief Development Officer at Menlo Digital, breaking ground in Herndon represents more than just a milestone; it signifies a broader strategy to solidify Menlo’s footprint across prime growth markets.
“Our portfolio now spans multiple Tier 1 markets, each specifically designed to meet demands for power density, sustainability, and operational capabilities that define the next generation of cloud and AI workloads,” Vaughan noted. This strategic positioning aims to deliver tailored solutions that align with the evolving needs of businesses worldwide.
Facility Features and Future Prospects
The MD-DC1 will utilize four 12 MW data halls, supported by a robust 67 MW of utility power, sourced from Dominion Energy Virginia's Lincoln Park Substation, which was brought online in December 2024. The powered shell of the facility is expected to be delivered by the Summer of 2026, with the entire center tailored to accommodate the relentless growth of cloud services and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
With a total area of approximately 9 acres, the development underscores Menlo Digital's commitment to providing high-performance data center solutions. These facilities are strategically located to meet the increasing demands of enterprises, cloud service providers, and AI-focused hyperscalers.
