UnionPay International Joins Forces with Weixin Pay

On December 17, UnionPay International announced a significant partnership with Weixin Pay aimed at facilitating international payments for users visiting mainland China. This collaboration marks a pivotal advance in mobile payment solutions, allowing users of UnionPay-supported electronic wallets to seamlessly scan Weixin Pay payment codes while navigating through China.

Wider Payment Options Get Introduced

The integration currently assists eight international wallet providers, enabling users from regions such as Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, and Malaysia to utilize Weixin Pay's services. The wallets involved include BoC Pay from the Bank of China (Hong Kong), Octopus, PayMe from HSBC, Bangkok Bank's Mobile Banking service, K PLUS from KASIKORNBANK, Naver Pay, and ICBC Mobile Banking from Malaysia. This broadened access will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience for foreign nationals residing in or visiting mainland China.

Transforming Payment Methodology

Through this new functionality, foreign users will be able to pair their physical UnionPay cards or activate digital versions in the participating wallets. Subsequently, they can effortlessly conduct transactions in local currency as their funds will be automatically exchanged into Chinese yuan at the time of payment.
