The vibrant city of Cheongju has reached a remarkable milestone, officially becoming a full member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the domain of Crafts and Folk Art. This significant recognition places Cheongju on the global map as a distinguished center for K-craft, highlighting its cultural richness and deep-rooted craftsmanship.
On November 5, 2025, Cheongju’s Mayor, Lee Beom-seok, announced the official acknowledgment during a press briefing. This announcement comes as Cheongju asserts its identity as the heart of K-craft. Mayor Lee emphasized that this membership will allow the city to engage meaningfully with a worldwide audience, fostering connections among its 880,000 citizens and the global craft community.

The announcement from UNESCO, which took place on October 31, 2025, officially inducted Cheongju as the only new Korean city welcomed into this prestigious network.
