The Frontline of AI Utilization in Japan's Material Industry
On April 17, AI Data Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, hosted the AI Agents x AX Forum focusing on the crucial field of materials, materials, and components—a sector the government strategically emphasizes. The discussions among industry leaders highlighted the accelerated integration of AI technologies within various industries, underlying the need for effective resource management and supply chain strategies.
Session Highlights
Session 1: Resource Security vs. Competitive Advantage
The first session featured Takahito Sasaki, CEO of AOS Group, who emphasized that in today’s age, it is countries capable of securing resources who will prevail, not merely those possessing them. He elaborated on the need for nations to ensure continuous control over resource procurement, processing, intellectual property, logistics, and manufacturing. Despite Japan's competitiveness in the materials and components sector, he pointed out the lack of supply chain visibility and decision-making frameworks, proposing a model termed “Resource Security x Supply Chain Command OS” to address these shortcomings. This model would leverage AI for demand-supply analysis and risk prediction, thereby enhancing national industrial competitiveness.
Session 2: Challenges and Future of Material Informatics
Next, Hiroyuki Teramae from Cross Ability discussed the prospects of Material Informatics (MI) and Chemoinformatics from a research vantage point. While there is growing anticipation surrounding AI-driven material development, he noted critical issues such as data quality variability, inconsistent experimental conditions, and data shortages. He asserted that simply implementing AI is insufficient; improving data management and integrating domain knowledge are essential. Collaborative efforts between researchers and data scientists could significantly enhance material exploration and research efficiency, marking a promising direction for AI in Japan’s material science sector.
Session 3: Redesigning Resource Security with AI Technologies
Daisuke Shida, CTO of AI Data Corporation, introduced a “2-Layer Model” combining AI Materials on IDX and Tokkyo.AI to redesign Japan’s resource security framework. The strategy involves integrating research, manufacturing, quality assurance, and procurement data within organizations while bolstering competitive strategy through external intellectual property management with Tokkyo.AI. Additionally, he presented the concept of the
