AVAIO Digital Launches Major AI-Ready Data Hub in Madrid, Spain

AVAIO Digital Launches AI-Ready Data Center in Madrid

In a pivotal move for Spain's digital landscape, AVAIO Digital has officially unveiled its first data center in the country, situated in Algete, a town in the Community of Madrid. Positioned strategically in Madrid's burgeoning tech corridor, this facility is designed to capitalize on the exponential growth of the region's technology sector. With a substantial investment of €650 million, this initiative aims to elevate the digital infrastructure of Spain and create a multitude of job opportunities.

This state-of-the-art data center, named AVAIO Digital Scorpio, promises to be a game changer by offering a total capacity of 64 megawatts (MW). It has secured an initial power supply of 8 MW through a partnership with Iberdrola, the leading power generation and transmission company in Spain, with expansions planned to 56.3 MW. This energy will support both cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, solidifying Madrid's position as a European leader in these technologies.

Mark McComiskey, the CEO of AVAIO Digital, emphasized the strategic importance of this development, stating, "Madrid is a leading European hub for cloud computing and AI development. We are thrilled to partner with the City of Algete to invest in the region's digital and energy infrastructure." This ambitious project is expected to generate more than 500 jobs during the construction phase and around 50 permanent positions once operational, significantly contributing to local workforce development.

The Algete data hub's construction will adhere to cutting-edge architectural and sustainable design principles aimed at minimizing its environmental impact. Plans include rainwater harvesting, the integration of rooftop solar panels, and an energy-efficient air-cooling system. These sustainable practices are crucial for companies looking to operate in an increasingly eco-conscious market, showcasing AVAIO’s commitment to responsible development.

Pedro Blanco, Project Manager in Spain for AVAIO Digital, noted, "This project contributes to consolidating Madrid's northern datacenter axis and Algete's emerging position as a datacenter hub. Our sustainable design will allow for the redevelopment of an old industrial site in an environmentally friendly manner."

As part of AVAIO Digital's broader strategy, this data center is aligned with other hyperscale projects the company is rolling out across Europe and the United States. The firm has already secured over 2 GW of power for developments in states like California and Virginia and plans to have nearly 450 MW available by 2027. With a focus on innovative designs and sustainable energy practices, AVAIO Digital positions itself on the frontline of the new generation of data center infrastructure.

In conclusion, the launch of this AI-ready data hub marks a significant milestone for AVAIO Digital and for Spain's overall tech ecosystem. As the country continues to evolve into a digital powerhouse in Europe, initiatives like this will be paramount to driving economic growth and technological innovation.
