Unseenlabs Launches Next-Generation Satellite for Enhanced RF Detection Capabilities

Unseenlabs Unveils New Generation Satellite for RF Detection

Unseenlabs, a leader in space-based RF monitoring, has announced the deployment of its second-generation satellite (Gen 2) designed to significantly expand its radio frequency (RF) detection capabilities. This advancement transforms its approach from primarily maritime knowledge to a more comprehensive, multi-domain understanding that now encompasses maritime, terrestrial, and spatial contexts.

The new satellite, designated BRO-31, was successfully launched as part of the SpaceX Transporter-17 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This satellite marks a significant technological leap, progressing from nanosatellites weighing approximately 15 kg to microsatellites weighing around 150 kg. With nearly a decade of operational expertise under its belt, Unseenlabs has harnessed its existing technology to create an independent operational model where each satellite can autonomously function.

As a part of its expanded satellite constellation, Unseenlabs now operates two distinct generations:
  • - Gen 1: Focused mainly on maritime data acquisition.
  • - Gen 2: Encompasses broader knowledge across multiple domains including maritime, terrestrial, and spatial.

Clément Galic, co-founder and CEO of Unseenlabs, remarked on the enhancements, stating, "Our second-generation satellites significantly broaden both the scope and depth of our RF detection capabilities. They facilitate the detection, geolocation, and characterization of a wider array of activities across maritime, terrestrial, and spatial domains, providing new strategic possibilities for our clients in commercial, security, and defense markets."

The Gen 2 satellites will be capable of detecting a broader range of frequencies including L, S, C, X, and Ku bands. This capacity opens new avenues for RF intelligence applications that serve both civilian and defense purposes. Applications range from enhanced maritime surveillance to spectrum monitoring and interference detection, even extending to observing defense systems.

The expanded capabilities enhance Unseenlabs' ability to detect, geolocate, characterize, and identify RF activities globally across various sectors.
