Short Short Film Festival & Asia 2025 K-Short Special Screening Event
The Short Short Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is gearing up for a momentous event in 2025. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Japan-South Korea diplomatic relations, the festival will be hosting a K-Short Special Screening Event on
June 1 at the expansive
TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, managed by the East Japan Railway Group. This grand venue promises to provide a fitting backdrop for the celebration of cinematic artistry between the two nations.
The screening lineup includes some thrilling titles that reflect the diverse narratives of contemporary Asian cinema. One of the highlighted films is
"A Peaceful Mind Is Not Stillness", a mockumentary directed by the beloved actor
Yu Junsang, known for his role in
"The Woman Who Dares". This film shares a poignant journey of self-discovery set against the harsh landscapes of Mongolia's Gobi Desert. Yu Junsang has shared his thoughts on the project, emphasizing the realization he made during his travels—that peace is not synonymous with quietness.
In addition to Yu's directorial work, the festival will feature
"Will You Come Up?", a horror film led by Kim Jiwoon from the boy band
ZEROBASEONE. The gripping narrative explores the consequences of poor choices made by the protagonist, leading him into a series of nightmarish dilemmas.
Furthermore, the musical drama
"In October", directed by OJun Kwon, delves into the universal experience of human sorrow, showcasing how individuals carry their emotional burdens throughout life.
Attendees of the K-Short Special Screening will also have the chance to view another directorial effort by Yu Junsang,
"Light As a Feather", which will be released online between
April 24 and
May 27. This heartwarming short film captures the essence of a woman’s brief return to Korea after her time working with an NGO in South America.
The festival aims to deepen the cultural understanding and connections between Japan and Korea through cinema, providing audiences with unique perspectives and celebrations of each nation's artistic contributions. Yu Junsang will also be participating in the festival's opening concert event, which promises to be a melodious exchange between the two nations.
