Rock Tech Lithium and ENERTRAG SE Establish Strategic Green Partnership

In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Rock Tech Lithium Inc. has announced a strategic alliance with ENERTRAG SE during the German-Canadian Critical Minerals Round Table held in Berlin. This collaboration aims to provide a long-term supply of renewable energy for a lithium hydroxide converter located in Guben, Germany. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place in the presence of notable governmental figures, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katharina Reiche.

Starting in 2030, the partnership will ensure that at least fifty percent of the electricity required for Rock Tech's converter will come directly from new wind and solar energy plants managed by ENERTRAG. This initiative is expected to halve the indirect CO2 emissions linked to the converter's operations, significantly enhancing its sustainability credentials and aligning with European climate goals.

Rock Tech’s strategic project aligns with the European Commission's Critical Raw Materials Act, which emphasizes the importance of responsible sourcing and sustainable practices in the development of the battery supply chain. The partnership is expected to serve as a model for decarbonizing the European industry while fostering cross-border cooperation.

A significant element of the green energy initiative is the provision of electricity from new renewable energy sources in nearby Gubin, Poland. Under a future power purchase agreement (PPA), ENERTRAG anticipates supplying at least 70 GWh of renewable electricity annually, which represents over fifty percent of the converter's anticipated energy consumption. This shift will substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Rock Tech's operations, targeting a twenty-five percent decrease.

Mirco Wojnarowicz, CEO of Rock Tech Lithium, remarked, "With the planned direct supply of our converter with renewable energy, we are setting an important milestone for sustainable lithium hydroxide production in Europe. The Guben converter will primarily rely on renewable energy sources from the outset, with at least fifty percent of its total electricity demand anticipated to be fulfilled by renewables from 2030 onwards. This project not only demonstrates the feasibility of sustainable industrial practices but emphasizes the critical role of cross-border partnerships in achieving greater sustainability.
