2026 Iwate Prefecture Living Satisfaction Rankings

In a groundbreaking survey conducted by Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd, Iwate Prefecture has revealed the results of its annual living satisfaction ranking for 2026. This year's findings are particularly significant as they reflect a comprehensive analysis of housing satisfaction across a multitude of factors. For the seventh consecutive year, Morioka City has claimed the title of the most desirable place to live in Iwate, solidifying its status as a leader in livability.

Morioka City: A Haven of Comfort

Morioka City, the capital of Iwate Prefecture, has consistently topped the rankings due to its rich blend of nature, history, and convenience. The city excelled in several categories, scoring first in four out of eight key factors, including safety, accessibility, and local amenities. Notably, the city's shopping facilities like MOSS Building and Cross Terrace Morioka contribute to its appealing lifestyle, attracting residents for both its urban comforts and serene environment. With a remarkable score reflecting a deviation above the average satisfaction levels, Morioka's position as the top city in Iwate is indisputable.

Rising Star: Shiwa County Yahaba Town

Securing the second spot in this year’s rankings is Shiwa County's Yahaba Town, which has risen from fourth place last year. Its proximity to Morioka makes it a prime location for those seeking a quieter, suburban lifestyle. With excellent public transport connections, including the Tohoku Main Line and National Route 4, residents can enjoy quick access to Morioka's urban core. Yahaba’s growing array of commercial and medical facilities further enhances its appeal, making it an ideal choice for families and young professionals alike.

Top Life Satisfaction Rankings Revealed

The survey also unveiled the 2026 Iwate Prefecture Desired City Rankings, with Sendai City holding the title for the second consecutive year as the most desired city to live in, followed closely by Morioka City. Notably, the Tokyo 23 wards maintain their position as a consistent attraction for residents, ranking third for five years in a row. In a remarkable trend, a substantial 75.2% of residents feel satisfied with their current living situation, highlighting a strong sense of community and contentment.
